The cloud cams all seem to have some way to go, in reliability, and offer things like gamified coaching to realize their potential and justify the monthly cost, so I ended up deciding to go non-cloud and save myself $20+/mth. Viofo stood out as more than one high credibility YouTube reviewer (Vortex Radar and Safe Drive Solutions) mentioned that Viofo was the make they use for their own car, because of quality video and reliability. I installed the A229 Plus 2 Channel with the Viofo BP100 dashcams battery pack in a VW ID4. Like other electric cars, you need to install a battery pack in order to preserve the 12V battery. The BP100 had recently been released and had good online reviews. I hardwired the battery into the fuse box, and the camera into the battery with some help from YouTube videos. The camera footage is good quality, parking mode works well on the battery, and the geofencing seems to switch off parking mode before entering my garage. Viofo has a longer (8M) rear cam cable that supports routing the rear cam cable via the door sill plates to avoid airbags, which I’d recommend. Customer care was very helpful when I contacted them about adding a 3rd cabin facing camera, to upgrade my 2ch to a 3 ch set up. Then I googled the camera model and found a YouTube review which didn’t explain crap about there being a battery or not, just shows an unboxing and the man plugging it into the cigarette lighter in his car. So, I grabbed it and plugged it in on my way to work. Definitely make certain of where you want to place it so that you can have the best coverage, learn from my mistake this thing isn’t another suction camera that you can easily adjust, it’s very strong 3M tape, once it’s up, it’s up and you’ve got to live with that angle. So do a dry run after plugging it in, if you plan on angling those little cameras at the side view mirrors. Haven’t had much opportunity to play with the menu, but I can’t seem to make it record continuously, seems like it records 5 minute clips and starts all over… Will have to purchase the parking cable to have piece of mind in the parking lot. De*** This isn’t my first Vantrue dash cam, I also own the Nexus 2X camera and have had good luck with it thus far. I needed a new camera for my wife's new crossover and decided to give Vantrue another go. I've been fairly impressed thus far, the front camera's 4K resolution and Sony STARVIS sensor (this is key!) makes for incredibly sharp footage, even at night, which is beyond helpful when trying to make out license plates and obscure road details. The app and overall functionality have also been straightforward and reliable, which is something we’re already used to. My only minor criticism is that the third camera isn't something I personally need. I feel like the front dash cam with the 2 cameras (facing front and rear) are really all you need to get the footage you’d need in case of something happening (an accident for instance), on top of that you'll save some money (just get the Nexus 4 Pro). Perhaps if you drive for uber or lyft or want full cabin coverage in a larger vehicle (3-row crossover, escalade, etc), it's probably a great feature for you, but for everyday commuting I'd have been just as happy with a high-quality front and rear setup. That said, the excellent image quality and overall performance still make this an easy recommendation and great addition to our Nexus 2X. Last piece of advice would be to buy an appropriate MicroSD card designed for dash cam usage like the Samsung Pro Endurance or Sandisk High Endurance! B098WVKF19 US

I can't comment on picture quality. I will say it will restart/reboot multiple times now. It didn't do that for about 4-6 months of ownership. Now it restarts about every 5-10 minutes during a drive, particularly during cold weather. Sometimes it doesn't operates as expected, but the restart thing is happening more often. I wouldn't recommend this product considering there are a multitude of alternatives at various prices and features.
