This was after having a bike stolen by a cut cable lock previosly. These are great locks, the mechanics of them are much better than the 2. Much easier to use because the lock bar goes straight on, instead of hinging like the two. The extra bar thickness does make a huge difference (beleive me, I had to cut them every so often at bike shops I worked at (with owner receipts)). I have much more piece of mind leaving my bike out at night. My only suggestion is to check the inner dimension if you want to get your front tire and frame around a bar. It works for mine, but it is much closer due to the added thickness in the U. Be aware also, this weighs a lot more than the 2, but once its in my pack I dont notice much. EDIT: I lowered the review to two stars because the lock is already starting to get jammed. I leave my bike outside often. My bike gets wet and still works. This lock does not. Once any moisture gets inside the lock, it gets jammed and you are forced to fight it to get it open. There is no seal to keep water out. I might expect this if I was to leave the bike locked for a month, not when I use it everyday. I know I could oil it which would help, but when I carry this in my bag, I dont want oil dripping all over my stuff. Getting the skewers on is a pain. The seat skewer was especially difficult to get right. I work in the Bronx. My job requires me to visit up to 9 houses in a day. My bike is literally what allows me to not have to take the incredibly slow bus system we have here. I have an electric bike that is pretty expensive. When I initially got it I looked on the internet and asked friends what a good locking technique would be. Most recommended 2-3 locks and taking the seat with me. These skewers allow me to have one folding lock that attaches to the downtube of bike. I feel pretty comfortable knowing that someone won't take my bike when I'm doing my rounds. Keep in mind, my bike is only ever locked up outside when the family cannot accommodate my bike indoors, it's only locked up for 30 mins at a time, and I do not leave my bike locked up overnight. I know that an especially determined thief MIGHT be able to get to it, however I think these skewers would make them think otherwise. My only complaint is that the seat skewer was especially difficult to get on. There was a time when I thought it was secure only to have the seat go completely down during a ride. After securing it really tight my seat does not seem to have moved since that incident. Make sure you take the key for this whenever you ride and you should be okay. B000XTPNZK US

(Yes, I take my sweet time getting back to product reviews). Anyway, if the Kryptonite name doesn't give it away, this product is truly amazing. As many bike enthusiasts will agree, a U-lock is a much greater thief deterrent than chain locks (although using a combination of both is best.) I originally got it for my road bike on the Berkeley campus. It came with a bike attachment, so I just clip it onto my bike when I'm on the road. The size of the U-lock is perfect for my needs, since anything bigger becomes cumbersome and will not fit when attached to my bike frame, and anything smaller will not allow me to lock my front wheel with my bike frame. For those of you looking for a good bike lock, I say shilling out a few extra bucks is a small price to pay for something that will last a long time, not to mention peace of mind. Highly recommend. You want just enough of a nuisance that they'll move on to the next bike. After many days of research, I settled on this chain and an Abus 92/80 Solid Brass Monoblock. If you're looking for a 3 ft 3/8" hardened steel chain, this does its job at a fraction of the price compared to the Trimax chain, or any other competitors. I'm currently living around a "safe" area so I justified my purchase of this decent 3/8" chain. If your area is more prone to bike thefts, I suggest you get the Trimax or even a thicker Abus chain (also sold on Amazon). The canvas/nylon blend covering is actually pretty thick and should adequately protect your bike from any scratches. Three feet is barely enough to fasten my rear tire and frame, if you prefer more give, I suggest you lean towards the Trimax. The links are indeed square and are slightly yellow from a special zinc coating. The welds don't look perfect, compared to the product photo, but they're pretty decent for the price. As a result I lost the keys to my lock somewhere over the Atlantic ocean so now I have a useless bike lock. There is also no padding- I wrapped my bike in a blanket. But the main problem is it's just very poorly constructed seams (fabric is quite heavyweight). I had no problem getting the bike in once I took handlebars and seat off; I don't understand others' comments about the fit being tight. I also used bungee cords to keep bike pieces tight and together. With that, it was easy to get in the bag- in fact, I think the bag was far too big for the bike and that's one of the reasons it ripped with so much extra give around the sides. Rod*** I ordered this bike lock for my bike and it has been excellent. The quality of the lock is top tier and it is quite strong. I have no worries of someone breaking this lock. The size of the lock is actually pretty small considering it locks me wheel and also goes through the frame. The lock itself is light enough to carry in a backpack with my other things. Using the lock was very straight forward as it came with a key that unlocks it and you just place the lock around your frame and wheel to secure it to whatever you have available. I take mine to the beach, so I was able to secure it to the boardwalk fencing without any issues. Highly recommend!
