The reviews on this on swayed me - even though it's not a recent version it kicks butt. Yes it's heavy but I think everyone needs to get over this detail. If you are in an urban environment you need a heavy chain lock or you can kiss your bike goodbye. Besides -you get used to it and gain some definition in your arms while you're at it! Bonus! It locks really easily, and I happen to prefer this interlocking system better than setting the links side by side. That's just too much battering space between the links and the lock. After inserting the links,the padlock closes down flush into the lock body making it really next to impossible to remove it. It would take so long to dismantle this thing that a would-be thief would make too much of a spectacle to be successful - and this is key - this is the deterrent. As a London/NYC biker said to another of the same: "First get this straight, a pro thief doesn't steal one off bikes, waste of time, but may occasionally steal several on a team surge - and THEY can have whatever they want - so there's no such thing as an impossible lock to break, so stop looking for that. ...Look for pain-in-the-butt lock. For the next (363mi) leg, we wrapped up the damaged frame and lock cable with a bath towel. Again, the wind force moved the tray but no new damage to bicycles. During the third (542 mi) leg, the cover came apart at the zippers. While on I-95 highway outside Bangor, Maine, a car pulled up next to us and indicated that our license plate had flown out of the tag holder! There was shipping tape on the open end. Make sure to use a copy of your plate. When we stopped at the hotel, we found the inside tray moved again causing the ENVE handlebar end to rub against the other bike damaging the handlebar tape - another expense. We decided to ditch the cover during the last leg home. Bottom line is we had secured the cover straps and cords as much as we saw where we could and there was damage to my new carbon bike frame and handlebar tape, and we have the hassle to replace our car tag. We didn’t think about adding protection to the frame and handlebars. Perhaps the description could include this warning as well. Update: Although the window to return the product had passed, Stu with customer service promptly contacted us to acknowledge the less than satisfactory experience with the cover. I use this lock with it's cable though the frame of my seat then connected to the Kryptonite(I have a quick release seat) plus a schage braided cable looped around the front wheel and back to the Kryptonite and the lock is though the rear wheel and frame locked around a bike rack or sign post. I finish up with an alarm mounted on my seat post. No one of these are foolproof however together they make take my bike too much of a pain to steal and a thief will move on to an easier target.
