Amazon C*** The dvr came with a bad hard drive and had to be sent back. It took forever to convince them that it was bad, that can be justified due to troubleshooting over email. They were slightly slow in responses, with my expectation of a response in 24 hours, but they did respond each time. I as a customer was also slow with responses from my end also. Everyone of the cameras have failed at different times, and now at best 1 to 3 random cameras will operate. Most generally the failures have been that the shutters get stuck thus they may work when the light is just right. However 3 appear to have taken things to a new level of completely dead. The quality of the pictures is poorer quality than similar systems. We can not recognize people at the same distances with similar cameras of the same resolution. Nighttime usability is about about 33% that of similar cameras. The software for reviewing the photos for the recorded period is unusable. I have used so much better at the same system cost. But really, you get what you pay for so don’t expect usable information. These have provided an intimidation factor only. I am still under warranty but I feel it better to cut my loses and run, never looking back. This system will be in my trash as soon as my new system from another manufacturer arrives. I am paying substantially more having learned my lesson well. I have been contacted by the manufacturer since I wrote this. They were a little hard to deal with but I got a partial refund that I thought was fair for i did get some use out of the system. They seem to be concerned about the quality of their products and i hope they improve. Based on this secondary experience, i am changing my review from one star to 2 stars. With the scheduling option, I can set my 7 Surface Hubs (independently) to power on and power off. This means, no more having multiple devices on all night and including weekends. Another useful control piece, for those that use network extenders (I use TpLinks) is the ability to cycle the power/reboot these even when you are not home. If you have other users and or devices reliant on the extenders and they are not talking, you simply turn the Kasa device off for 30 seconds and then turn back on. **remember the Kasa has to be on an independent SSID and not the extender SSID; as you will loose connection to the Kasa once you turn it off** Let it come back online and test the devices connected to them (wireless security camera or maybe smart bulbs). I like the fact that I can also control the charging of my mobile phones too. I can set a schedule for our phone’s charging while we sleep. Set the schedule to start at 9pm and off a few hours later. Another helpful use, is plugging in battery chargers (AAA, AA, C, D, and 9 volt types). You can put the Kasa on a countdown timer for 8-10 hours and check the batteries the next day. But the problem is in the software and firmware. You are forced -- yes forced -- to use Netvues app to view this camera. I was completely unable to access the camera using any other software, even with the correct IP settings. It appears locked to only their app. That's a problem. Even after successful setup, the app stupidly drops the feed if it doesn't like your internet connection. But this is supposed to work on your local WiFi network -- it shouldn't be relying on internet for viewing the feed on the local WLAN at all. This is a huge problem if you are in an area with less than perfect internet -- places like a cabin or outbuilding where you'd want security cameras. And even if you try to view it over perfectly fast local WiFi, the app refuses to let you view your camera if it doesn't like your internet speed. It has refused to connect, claiming poor internet even while a speed test shows it working just fine. (Again, external internet speed shouldn't even be a concern on a local WiFi camera.) The Netvue app also forces you to look at ads for their products while using the app to (badly) view a camera you paid them for.
