Chef'n VeggiChop Hand-Powered Food Chopper (Arugula), 5.5" x 5.5" x 5" 2 Bad product - cuts unevenly & squeezes instead of cutting Il*** We eat a lot of vegetables in my family, and we like to prepare a salad that's made of thinly sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, etc. I thought that using this device would shorten the time it takes me to cut with a knife, but the results were very disappointing. In fact, the only reason why I gave it two stars, and not a single one, is because it did cut the vegetables. The issue was with HOW it cut them. I started with a cucumber, I cut it into a few smaller pieces of about 1 inch in length, and fed into the box (which by itself is very small, and holds very little). I started pulling the cord and watched it cut, until the pieces of cucumber seemed to reach the small size that I wanted. I opened the box and poured the content into a large bowl, only to find out that one of the larger pieces was barely touched, and remained nearly one inch in size. The rest of the cucumber was cut in the most unevenly way possible - some pieces were tiny, and some were relatively big. Not what I had in mind. The next thing I tried is with a tomato. Again, I sliced the tomato into quarters (bigger portions wouldn't fit, and started chopping... or at least this is what I thought I'm doing. The result I got was tomato juice. It looked less like being cut with a knife, and more like squeezing the tomato in a juicer. If the esthetic result of the cucumber was bearable, the sliced tomato just looked terrible. I stopped at this point, washed the parts, and am returning this to Amazon. This device is not even close to substitute a good knife and a cutting board, so I'm going back to basics - at least I'll get a good, evenly cut and esthetic looking salad. B004LB5EWI US
Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations Kit 5 Great upgrade for laminate countertops Alis*** I recently used the "Java Stone" kit to update the stained white laminate counter tops in my kitchen. As other reviewers have stated, this won't fool anyone into thinking you've got stone or granite, but it's certainly nicer than the plain laminate we had before. "Upgraded laminate" you might say. The Java Stone is a much nicer color in real life than the color swatch on the box. It has almost a purple-brown hue to it in some lights, but I think it would compliment just about any decor. We have white cabinets with brushed nickel handles/pulls and stainless steel appliances. It looks good. Several reviewers have mentioned that there is not enough adhesive and too many chips for 50 square feet. I did NOT have that problem. I had slightly less than 50 sq ft of counter top to cover, and we had enough adhesive and I actually almost ran out of chips. I could be the exception to the rule, just maybe don't open the 2nd box if you buy it until you absolutely need it. Plus I don't think they make the small kit in Java Stone. As other folks have suggested, make sure to watch the video and read all the instructions... and get a 2nd person to help you. I think it could be done by one, but... work smarter, not harder. Also, several people said they used a random orbital sander with 60 grit paper to rough up counters and/or sand down chips. We did the same thing and it saves a LOT of time I think. Just to be safe, I did go back over my naked counters a bit with the diamond sander block to make some deep scratches. The regular sanding block that comes with the kit is junk, it will rub away to nothing in minutes. The only problem I had was patching up light or underchipped areas. The kit suggest that, after the adhesive and chips are dry, if you see an area that needs better coverage to just roll on more adhesive and throw chips and let it dry. We did this in a few spots and it looks AWFUL. Here's why: When you do this on top of a "light" area, you're making it taller than the surrounding counter, so when you sand it down to make everything level, you basically sand through your chips and have a spot of mostly adhesive that doesn't match the area around it. You could avoid this by not sanding it level, but then the counter might have a bump... So now we have several spots that look crappy. But that's ok, they are conveniently located where I always keep a cutting board or appliance. In hindsight, I think it would have been best to sand the lightly covered/underchipped area down to the bare counter before patching. I did not try this, so I'm not sure if it would work. Take care to do a VERY thorough examination of the surface before you put the glossy topcoat on. I thought I did a good job, even using a flashlight to go over every inch, but there are still spots were a few specks of the original white counter showed through. Oh well, I'm sure I'm the only one that notices. Overall, I'd say this is a great product, and I've definitely been recommending it to my friends. Sha*** I bought an unfinished butcher block top kitchen cart and needed to protect the wood from kitchen spills and also from drying out from the heat. After much research for what the best product would be to do this, I decided to use Real Milk Paint Pure Tung Oil. Not only did it have the best price for the job it is food safe with low odor upon application.There are a lot of products that say " pure tung oil " but when you look closer at the list of ingredients it also includes others such as varnish or solvents. I still did it in a well ventilated area when applying as there is a bit of an odor but not offensive. It was way easier to apply than stain and will last longer than linseed oil. A small amount goes a very long way. I did not have to add anything to this product to get it to absorb for the first coat as some other reviewers had suggested. I was very happy with the way it covered and soaked in to my unfinished piece of furniture. I only had to apply two coats. I was very easy to tell when the wood had enough. I probably didn't even need two coats but it did make it a dash more golden in color. I am very happy with how quick it was delivered and half the price of similar products. Scrub Daddy 4 Good product with some limits Omar*** Like several others, I sought out the scrub daddy after seeing it on Shark Tank. Re: the comments on it falling apart. It really depends on the temperature of the water you use it with. Because it softens up considerably when under hot water, it also breaks more easily when it's in this softened state. I tend to do most of my scrubbing in warm rather than hot water, so my scrub daddy lasts for a while. And it scrubs better when firm from cooler water. Over Thanksgiving however with all the greasy pots and pans, I gave it quite a workout in hotter water than I usually use for everyday washing [like glasses, knives, cutting boards] so it definitely got damaged. So if you are a definitely hot water scrubber, this product probably won't last long for you. But note that the scrubbing action is better when this product is firmed up under cold water. When I have tough scrubbing to do of items that can stand it [cast iron pan, stove top, glass baking dish] I use my scotch brite stainless steel scrubberr [coiled up steel - not a steel wool pad]. However when I need to scrub eggs off my "non-stick" pan I used the scrub daddy cold, and it does better than the green scrubby part on the flip side of a sponge, and doesn't scratch, or get mildewy. I only occassionally run mine thru the dishwasher, because I think that really hot wash and dry wear it down a little. And I used it for every day washing of the above mentioned glasses, cutting boards, mixing bowls etc. For this reason, I keep them around. BELLA 13753 Meat Slicer 3 GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY PURPOSES Michael*** GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY PURPOSES, BUT--- ---Let me start by saying this is my first meat slicer, an item I've long contemplated but never thought necessary. That was until I received a Best Buy gift card, and caught this Bella Meat Slicer as a Deal of the Day. Couldn't resist. The GOOD: In my case it was only a few dollars, but I wouldn't have paid full price for it. It works well, having used it now 7 or 8 times - rump roast, pork loin, ham, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, squash, and zucchini. It's also very safe, the guide keeps your hand and fingers from being exposed to the rotating blade. The BAD: 1) It's difficult to clean, literally taking longer than the slicing. With a roast or loin you end up with quite a mess - juices and food particulates all over the unit, in gaps and between cracks, a proper cleaning requires not only time but a sponge, small brush, and toothpick for good measure. A royal pain. The BAD: 2) Whatever you slice lands on the unit behind the blade, there's no receptacle to capture it. That seems ridiculous to me, and I've devised a way of stacking the slicer atop a cutting board atop a baking pan to keep foods from just freefalling onto the counter. I have to imagine that a higher-end slicer accounts for the problem somehow, but this one certainly does not. All-in-all I'm satisfied for two reasons, one being that I acquired it on the cheap, the other being that it does the job I need it to do. If I had to use it regularly, as opposed to once every couple weeks, I'm sure I'd grow tired of the laborious task of cleaning it. I think 3 stars is about right, 2½ might be more accurate. I have previously owned and wore out two Presto griddles; each lasted around ten years with the exception of the drain trays which crack almost immediately. While the Presto griddles we're good to okay, I was seeking a better quality griddle without Teflon coating, but with a well performing non-stick surface. I ordered and quickly returned another ceramic coated griddle (bacon grease EVERWHERE). I had been holding off on the Zojiruschi because of cost and storage size. I have been using this griddle for about four months now. From the first time I used it I loved it. As with all griddles it requires time to heat up. It cooks pancakes, bacon, grilled sandwiches, veggies, fish fry, grilled fish, etc. like a dream. There is no grease drain, but keeps grease from getting all over the counter SO MUCH BETTER than the Presto griddles. The grease pours into a grease can easily. It also cleans up like a dream . The lid is a bonus for steaming and warming, although I rarely use it. I did have to dedicate a specific area for horizontal storage because of the multiple parts making up this unit (lid, griddle, heating element, and base). I used to store the Presto vertically next to cutting boards. Bottom line, I'm so glad I purchased this product. It it definitely a step up in the wide world of griddles. 09-2022 Update: I have had this griddle for over 3 years now and the finish still looks new and cleans up like a dream. I have no idea what some reviewers are doing with it to end up with such horrible finish. HOWEVER, similar to other reviewers I also find the temperature to run away on me and the control settings to be inaccurate. I will preheat at 325, start my food, watch it like a hawk and very quickly turn down the temp to below setting 300 and the temp can still run away on me. I still rarely use the cover, but it is nice to have options. Downgrading to 4 stars due to runaway temperature, but I would still recommend this griddle over others I have owned. B00G7X2BPQ US
