I have a small craft room for my scrapbooking and card making. There in not enought room to keep a sewing machine out at all times. This solves the problem wonderfully. I get the same look with one small tool. It it very easy to use, although I would suggest investing in one of the mats for this product. I did not get one and tried at first to use one from another cutting tool. The holes did not punch all the way and it was hard to see. I switched to the soft back of our mouse pad which has been working fine till my mat arrives! The attachments are simple to change, yet lock in tight so you don't have to worry about them popping off. This would be a great tool to take to crops without taking up tons of space. If I wanted to use a contrasting color, there might be a problem. Since I have had a serger for years, I had no trouble understanding threading and tension. When I do get to construct a garment, I hope I still feel the same because I have wanted a coverstitch machine for years! I really don't understand why the clear foot is so expensive. I can now hem ANY stretch fabric, no matter how thin or delicate, and put a professional store-bought finish onto every top I make. I use it to sew PERFECT necklines, armholes, and hems. TRICK #1 - REMOVE YOUR GARMENT FROM THE MACHINE: It's super simple; once you're done sewing the hem, 1. Open the looper door. 2. RELEASE THE LOOPER! 3. Lift the presser foot. 4. Press open the thread tensions with your fingers. 5. Remove the hemmed piece with no sticking or tugging. 6. Push the looper closed before cutting the threads, and you're ready to sew your next seam. The trick is to release the looper, because the needle threads wrap around the looper during sewing and they don't want to let go. Turning the knob never helps me. TRICK #2 - SEW THE PERFECT HEM (or neckline or armhole) WITHOUT IRONING: STEP 1: On your regular sewing machine: BASTE the edge of your fabric, about 1/2" from the edge of the piece. Use long (6 mm) stitches to ensure easy thread removal later, and sew one long continuous seam all the way around the piece (very important to create "folding tension"). STEP 2: On the Cover Stitch machine: use the basting thread to create the fold (fold at the "dotted line" of thread) which will make a perfect 1/2" hem. As you sew, you can pull gently against the basting thread which creates enough tension to keep your fold perfectly aligned at the 1/2" mark. STEP 3: When finished, remove using Trick #1 above; and thread the top threads through to the underside of the garment edge and tie on the inside before clipping short. STEP 4: Remove the basting threads from the fold and you're done! The end result not only looks beautiful, but the seam stretches with your fabric, allowing you to surprise and amaze all your friends. :) The basting (Trick #2) might seem to be extra work, but trust me, you will be THRILLED with the results, especially if you sew knits/stretch fabric that doesn't lend itself well to pressing. But don't stop there, I've tested it, and the basting technique works very well for non-stretch fabrics also. I will never go back to life before a serger and cover stitch machine (I have the pair of Brother machines). I am a changed woman and people marvel that my clothes are actually home-made. Even my teenage daughter allows me to sew for her now! The machine will enable you to hem Under Armor shirts, and the results look incredibly like the original.
