The rub is that the room thermister is located on the back of the unit near the bottom. So as most will install I put it on an outside wall. Well because of drafts or whatever the room thermister never goes over 60 degrees even when other thermometers show the room at 70 degrees plus. I put a 40 watt light bulb near the thermister and it immediately increased. As soon as the unit kicked on and fan started blowing it decreased by 4 degrees. Bad design putting the thermister right next to the intake for the fan! In this day and age it's hard to believe they don't offer a remote thermostat especially for what this unit cost. For that reason I don't recommend this product. A call to customer service only resulted in that I need to move the unit. I don't want it in the middle of the room!!! B00KGOQH8E US

Be careful and hold the lid and move slowly -thermometer isn't in the ideal place if you're doing a two zone, split down the middle grilling. You usually have to aim the lid vent over the food you're trying to smoke so the thermometer ends up right over the coals, giving it a false higher temperature. The video instructions on product site calls for twice as much coal to get around 900F, which sounds about right according to my experience but i just could not justify use of that much coal for the first try and amount of pizza cooked. I will do a more detailed review once i get my infrared thermometer, including stone and air temps in the kettle with proper amount of coal to test the limits of this kit but so far I could not be happier considering the alternatives i have access to. Only complaint i have is the price drop i missed, which actually cost me around 40 bucks because of the import tax i had to pay on the earlier price. At this price, this is a steal! B00R6KJJ3Q US

I checked my spam folder, so maybe they got the spelling wrong. I would not recommend this complicated, finicky thermometer. We ended up guessing the timing and used our regular one and it was fine.
