Here's why: effective ear protection earmuffs need to have fairly deep cups so that they adequately seal around your ears, and so there's room for your ear. These earmuffs are essentially defective because the cups are too shallow (1/2 inch or less). So they don't seal around your ears, allowing too much noise in from activities like lawn mowing or leaf blowing, and they squish your ears uncomfortably. I'm still looking for real ear protection earmuffs that have speakers and an MP3 input, but these aren't it. For now, I'm back to using real noise protection earmuffs while wearing earbuds inside, although this is a kludgey solution. B017RZ45F6 US

Wind, cars, & birds all come through in a digitized pass-through, but then hammer strikes trigger instant muting of the environment. The packaging was simple and they came with the batteries, which are very easy to install. The microphone pickups work great and will actually amplify the voices and sound around you if you turn the volume even half way full. The earmuffs were very comfortable for the hour or so that I was wearing them, and because I could hear everything going on around me, I almost forgot I was wearing them. They did a good job of filtering/muffeling high decible gun shots. The compact folding design makes the Howard Leight R-01526 Electronic Earmuff very convenient to carry in tactical situations. I plan to use these for my everyday hearing protection (required on military Helo travel) so I purchased an inexpensive MOLLE pouch so that I could attach to my Individual Body Armor. My one and only complaint is the integrated rc jack. It came with a dual male end rc wire which is supposed to allow you to use in conjunction with an IPod, MP3, etc. This particular feature had no bearing on my decision to buy this product, but since it was there I decided to test it out. When connected to my laptop there was a continuous buzzing, static that I could not get rid of. I will have to try this feature with other devices to see if the annoying hum was caused my device or the headphones themselves. I will be keeping my earmuffs regardless.
