I think next year I'll be sticking with these oval shaped beds and I'll definitely be buying more from this particular brand. I bought these in a 2x4 set for some smaller border beds and they worked out great. Most of the galvanized beds are flimsy thin metal, some even rust within their first year. These seem like they will last longer, they are just thicker and more sturdy than all the other beds I have (which is now 11). My only nit pick on these beds is that the pieces don't align perfectly once you put it all together, but they look fine and they are sturdy even before you add soil so these guys get a 5 pending an update next year. Living o*** This large, bottomless garden bed arrived unassembled in a flat box with limited instructions, ten metal panels (6 curved, 4 straight), 40 hex nuts, 40 bolts, and a long strip of black plastic. This plastic trim slips over the top metal rim after completion, providing a safer, more polished appearance. You'll need to pinch the area above the bolts ( double thickness of metal) together to slip the trim over them. No tools are included in the box. Assembly was easy. Fearing a nasty cut, I wore gloves to remove the sharp-edged panels from the carton, and easily assembled the raised garden bed by hand. I'll use a screw driver and a nut driver to reallllly tighten the nuts and bolts before filling the bed. (Note: although I didn't completely fasten it together, I arranged the six curved panels together in a circle just to see how that would look as an option to the intended capsule-shaped bed. You could also leave out two of the flat side panels to form a shorter container for a third look.) Two assembly observations: Attaching a panel on the outside of the one next to it versus the inside can create a noticeable gap. Since there was no mention of this in the instructions, you'll need to keep an eye on this yourself. If you see a gap, place the panel on the opposite side and see if that closes the gap. I originally assumed this raised bed was galvanized steel, but the box listed the material as Zincalume ( combination of zinc + aluminum). I wasn't familiar with the term and found the following about this material being used in the roofing industry: "Aug 27, Durability Comparison: This results in a longer-lasting material that can withstand harsh conditions more effectively than traditional galvanised steel. In coastal areas, where salt spray can accelerate corrosion, Zincalume has been shown to last up to four times longer than galvanised steel." Sounds good to me! The shiny metal bed measures 22.5 inches wide, 11 inches tall, and 47 inches long. It is lightweight and easily moved, but feels strong. It can hold a fair amount of flowers or vegetables, and will be an attractive, affordable addition to this year's garden. For others with limited outdoor space, or children wanting their own garden, this could be a perfect solution. I would definitely recommend this item.
