I've used it to capture some pretty cool high speed actions. The biggest complaint I have is the relatively small image sensor - only 2 Megapixels, so extreme zoom (a capability of the included lens) turns out grainy and with artifacts. The computer natively recognized the USB Shutter Camera, and assigned a program to view it, but that program was only for still capture, (for 640x480 captures) and so I downloaded a studio style program for direct video capture to my computer. Here's where it got troublesome. The program loaded a default 640x480 30fps profile, and I had to change it repeatedly. It's almost as if the camera is telling the computer it is a 640x480 device, despite working well for each event as a 1280x720, 120fps camera and recording as such. White it may be the program, the fact that two programs load it as a default 640x480 device is puzzling. The lens is widely adjustable for zoom, focus, and aperture size, and holds a setting easily with the screw stops. The camera works okay in low light, with some artifacts appearing in the recorded video. But it shines in high speed mode, allowing a frame-by frame view of high speed events (I recorded the movement of a subwoofer and it's speake cone's deformation). All in all, if you have to capture or record a high speed event (up close, hopefully) , this is the bargain way to capture it. For regular calls, chatting with friends, or even joining work meetings, it does the job nicely. Setup was very easy. I just plugged it in and got it going without having to mess with a bunch of complicated steps. I also like that it comes with an adapter, which made it more convenient depending on what device I wanted to try it with. That was a nice extra and made it feel more flexible right away. One thing I really like is the privacy cover. It slides over the camera easily, and I always appreciate that kind of feature on a webcam. If I had to point out a downside, it would just be that you may need to play with the position a little to get the most flattering angle, and like most webcams, lighting really matters. I am running Windows 11, the latest version, and as soon as I plugged in the camera, the computer recognized all the specs. IMAGE QUALITY: I could go into settings and “devices”, then choose the actual camera itself, and I was able to adjust the brightness, sharpness, color, and basics. It did help a bit. I did notice that the camera is a bit on the dark side when it comes to picking up light. I decided to try it with a few lights I have for shooting photos and video. They are small square clip lights that I placed quickly at a 45-degree angle from my face. In the clips I took for you guys, I didn’t do any major tweaking but just wanted to demonstrate that with a bit of extra attention to lighting, the “basic camera” can look a bit more upscale. SOUND: The sound is not great. It is very soft and muted. I ended up using a separate mic so that I could get any kind of volume for the session or recording. MUCH BETTER! FEATURES: The camera feels substantial. It has some weight. The front of the camera is all glass. The rest is mostly thick plastic. Where the camera head is mounted to the bracket, there is a ball joint. It allows you to pivot the angle of the camera for most adjustments without needing a ball-head tripod. Very convenient, as not everyone will mount the camera anywhere other than the top of their screen. The clamp for mounting on the screen is also a successful design. It has foam inside both sides of the clamp that grip the screen from both sides. It is weighted nicely, and I haven’t had any issues with it falling. I am happy to see that the base also has a standard thread so that if you do want to mount this to a small tripod, you can. The USB cable that is integrated into the camera is nice and long. Especially a plus if you are using this with a tower or raising it up higher onto a tripod. One feature that I like is that it does have a “privacy feature”. This is in the form of a switch on the side that you flip “on” and “off”. When it is turned off, a little cover comes over the lens. When the camera is “on” there is a green light displayed as well so that you know the camera is live. USES: My investment in a separate webcam rather than using the camera on my laptop is to be able to adjust the height of the camera without having to raise my whole laptop up to maintain eye height for the lens. It is a better height for a more professional look for video calls. This also allows me to light the video calls in a more professional way. I am a retired professional photographer, so my knowledge began in the world of still photography but has recently been branching out into videos. In this day and age, learning about video calls and even the professional aspects of them (a deeper dive) is often necessary. In my case, to guide a friend through the process of interviewing for jobs. This camera picks up light better than my onboard laptop camera. It is an overall better-quality image. As long as that is translating to the person on the other end, that is great! My understanding is that you set yourself up for the best possible scenario, and either way, it is a positive that the lighting and height of the camera WILL make a huge difference in how you, as an interview candidate, are perceived. VALUE: At the price of 19.99$ this product is right around what other products in this class with the same specs go for. It is an affordable option for a basic webcam. No frills, plug-and-play, and does a decent job for video calls and basic videos if you take a bit of care with the sound and light. PROS: *This webcam is a nice step up from my laptop cam. *It is plug-and-play and easy to use. *The long cord gives me the ability to raise the camera up to eye level and create the mood I was looking for in order to have better-quality video calling. *The videos are okay and even better with added light and an additional mic. *Safety: This product meets U.S., EU, and UK electrical and safety compliance (this is a good sign for a budget handheld fan) –The presence of RoHS suggests cleaner materials and safer solder. –FCC + CE + UKCA together usually indicate the manufacturer is legitimate and exporting globally, not a no-name factory run.
