Competent E*** PROS: - Lightweight - Lots of reinforced stitching where it's needed - Waterproof - Lots of places to attach things - Nice big clips on the chest strap and the belt - A belt! Many of these small hydration packs have only a chest strap; a belt really helps eliminate bounce. - The hydration bladder hose is insulated! That is a first for me; I haven't see any other hydration pack that comes standard with hose insulation. It isn't really thick insulation like the Gearhandle that I swear by - the Gearhandle kept my hose from freezing when I was hiking in -12C/10F weather. I had to drink every 15 to 20 minutes to keep the bite valve from freezing, but the hose was fine. - The hydration bladder and hose have only a very tiny bit of 'plastic' smell and taste; I am sure that could be washed out quickly. - The hose is interchangeable with some (not all) of the other bladders and hoses that I own; that is convenient. CONS: - The pockets are a bit strange; the two side pockets that on other packs would often be designed for water bottles are much wider at the bottom than the top. I'm not sure why, and I don't think it is a good design. Making them wider at the bottom eats into the big mesh pocket on the back, so that pocket is 16cm wide at the top but only 8cm wide at the bottom. I don't own any pieces of hiking gear that are shaped like a slice of pizza! - Neither the shoulder straps nor the belt have any pockets; I really like some pockets up front for storing snacks and other small items. - It isn't designed for small people; if your chest is smaller than about 84cm/33in it may not fit. - It has trekking pole attachment loops, but you can't reach them without removing the pack. That is just about standard; the only packs I know that allow you to store or retrieve trekking poles without help or removing the pack are Osprey. Overall, really really good - not a big pack, but very well done for what it claims to offer. I used it on a 12 km/7 mile hike; it comfortably held a couple of jackets, a first aid kit, and couple of other small items and did really well. No bouncing, no chafing, just a good light fit. If the pockets were better designed and it had a few pockets on the front I would say five stars; if those things don't matter to you then this is a great pack! It's roomy, securely holds rods, has a number of compartments for assorted gear and valuables. I don't think anyone would be unhappy with this bag and I'd probably value it around $35-$40. There are a handful of things I think could be better, though. That's why I'm only giving it 4 stars. My main concerns are: 1. The main compartment is too large/has no dividers. There are two zippered doors/flaps on the front of the bag. The bottom one is ostensibly where you would put your tackle boxes. It works great for this purpose and holds about 4 or 5 3700 size boxes. However, the second/upper zippered "compartment" is not actually separated by any kind of dividers. Anything you put in this compartment just sits on top of your boxes, so when you remove a box, anything in the upper compartment just falls down. Then when you want to put your boxes back in, you have to lift whatever other gear you have in order to insert the boxes. This would be a better bag (in my opinion) if the middle compartment has separate from the bottom so that you have a large catch-all area to store rain jackets, phone chargers, first aid kit, and whatever other assorted gear you bring. 2. The bag isn't really that water resistant. Obviously fishing involves getting wet, and that's fine. But anyone who has ever done any hiking knows that it's awfully nice to have a dry pair of socks to change into. If you get caught in the rain or the bag gets splashed, it would be really handy to know that my phone/keys/wallet/etc would be protected. Even just a good waterproof pouch would be a great addition. This is a minor complaint though, because you can always just put your stuff in a ziplock bag. 3. The bag quality is probably a 7 out of 10. For the most part, I have no doubts that it will last me for a few years. But I don't expect this to be a bag that I'll pass down to my son or anything like that. The material feels durable and of reasonable quality, but there are places where I don't think the stitching is particularly robust, particularly around some of the zippers and cords. Overall, this is a pretty versatile piece of equipment and I would feel comfortable using it on a kayak or boat, walking through the woods to reach those hidden fishing spots, or sitting on a dock with my family. C*** I purchased this case specifically to be able to transport my Ruger LCP with me when flying. It works perfectly and is definitely TSA friendly. There are three layers of foam in the case - the egg crate foam that's attached to the lid and bottom of the case, as well as the perforated foam that is removed to create an area of the firearm to fit into. It was easy to work with and I was able to create space for the firearm, two magazines, and a 20 round box of ammo. The two front latches create a good seal, and the two locking holes on both sides are positioned correctly for you to add padlocks for air travel.
