They really stay down well. Unfortunately, the sticky, flat side that sticks to the rug doesn't stick to the rug well at all, and because the vacuum side sticks to the floor so well, they peel off of the rug any time the rug moves a little bit. I have a washable rug, and because washable rugs are thinner than most rugs I often have a weird, annoying wrinkle that won't go away right in the middle of the rug. I ordered this hoping it would be a solution, although I was wary if I could wash it with the rug pads on or not. I didn't even get to try though. Before I placed these non-slip rug pads on, I washed and dried my rug thoroughly and also washed and dried the floor the rug pads would be stuck to. After everything was thoroughly cleaned and dried, I placed the rug pads on. (Despite the vacuum side not being sticky, there is a peel off top layer on it just like there is on the sticky side, and I imagine that some people would not realize that, so if the ribbed "vacuum" side isn't working for you just make sure you got that off.) These rug pads did keep my rug straight and non-wrinkled for about a week and a half before the rug eventually moved enough to for the wrinkle to return. I'm guessing that's when the rug pads came off of the rug. I didn't notice at first, so the sticky side that "sticks" to the rug collected a ton of dirt for probably about a week or so. Because the vacuum side works so well, I've been trying other methods to get the rug pads to stick to the rug. So far super glue has worked better than fabric glue, but not well enough for it to really be a solution. I may try to hand stitch them on just the underneath side of the rug. The vacuum side just works so well. If the pads actually stayed stuck to the rug, I would consider the current price of approximately $10 to be well worth it because of how well the vacuum works. Because they don't stay on the rug, I can't recommend them and don't think they are worth the price. My two pictures show the rug while the rug pad is underneath it and the pad after I found it had come off of the rug. (The dirty side is the side that sticks to the rug. It completely transforms the space, making the basement feel more like a cozy living area than a lower-level, cold room. The rug is extremely soft underfoot, lightweight, and still holds up well to vacuuming without getting sucked up inside. It's low-profile design helps prevent tripping, and so far the corners haven’t curled up at all. The rubber backing actually works well on its own, so I haven’t needed an extra rug pad, which is actually inconvenient as you have more to adjust over time. The V-webbed kind of stitching along the edges look durable and well-finished. While I haven’t had any spills yet, the tight weave makes it seem like dirt and liquid would stay on the surface and be easy to spot clean. It did arrive folded, so it needed a little time to flatten out, but it wasn’t nearly as difficult as other rugs I’ve had. A quick brush from the center outward helped it settle nicely. Also, I like that it comes with a sheet to show how to care for your rug.. It mentions to reverse roll the rug to get the creases out, which was a great idea. Vacuuming without a roller to preserve the rug and to avoid vacuuming the edges to prevent fraying. Another thing I didn't think about was rotating the rug every few months to ensure an even wear. I appreciated that very, very much. Overall, I absolutely love it. It adds a soft, natural look to the room, feels amazing barefoot, and is both practical and beautiful. Durable, Reversible 8' X 10' Premium Grip(TM) Rug Pad for Hard Surfaces and Carpet 5 No more creeping Sha*** I recently purchased a nice Karastan wool rug to put over my carpet in my living room. I have placed rugs over carpet before, and have used various types of pads - and, on occasion, no pad at all. This was the nicest rug I have purchased, therefore, I could justify paying a bit more for the pad. After doing quite a lot of research and reading, I decided to give this pad a shot. I wasn't particularly optimistic, since all the previous pads I had purchased had failed my expectations and I felt I had wasted my money. Today, I have absolutely NO idea where those pads are...I feel CERTAIN they went in the trash a long time ago. First, I was impressed with the quick delivery. From the time I received the confirmation that the item had shipped, it was on my doorstep within 12 hours! Way, way, WAY faster than I had expected. It arrived in a heavy plastic bag that was in perfect condition. I rolled it out and placed my rug. A LITTLE easier said than done. To use it properly, you put the rubber side up when using over carpet. The rubber does such a grand job gripping the rug, it makes it a little difficult to position precisely. I did this alone. It would be easier with two people, but a little exercise didn't hurt me! There was absolutely no odor what-so-ever. The pad did shed one bit, either. No fibers flying around. Unlike some of the previous reviewers, my pad was cut slightly larger than the 8'x10' I had ordered. It was cut straight. I did have to trim it to fit under my rug. I recommend a good pair of heavy duty shears for the task. Even while cutting, the pad did not shred or shed. I cut it slightly smaller than the rug so it lays flat on the edges so we don't catch our toes or the vacuum cleaner on it. This prevents a trip and fall and the corners from turning up. Once in place, I am impressed with the feel underfoot. The pad adds some nice depth and a slight softness underfoot. It is not "squishy," but rather firm with a slight give. The pad adds a bit of luxury to the already nice rug. Now...the clincher...in addition to all the great things above, the thing I love the MOST about this is that, although I have had the rug and pad in place about a month now, and have had absolutely no furniture sitting on it, the carpet has not moved even one tiny bit! I have vacuumed it numerous times, and there is not even the slightest bit of movement to the rug. No little wrinkles. It has remained firmly in place. I will not make the mistake of wasting my money on another cheapo rug pad. After all, buy 2 of those (and curse them and toss them), and you still have nothing. Pay twice the price the first time and you will save yourself a great amount of frustration in the long run. You'll still have this pad for many years. After all..."
