While they are marketed as plant shelves, they can also be used to display figurines, vases with flowers, clocks, or other decorative items. They could even be mounted beside a bed and used as a small nightstand for a clock, light, or other small items. I really like that they can be used for so many different purposes. The set comes with two shelves and two rechargeable LED color-changing light discs. The lights come with a remote control, which is a nice feature, and each light includes a mounting bracket. The brackets attach to the wall, and the lights then attach magnetically to the brackets. This is particularly convenient because you can quickly remove the lights for charging without having to unscrew anything. The lights can also be used for other applications if you don't want to use them with the shelves. One thing I found odd, however, is that although these are marketed as plant shelves, the included lights are not actually grow lights. They are designed strictly as accent or display lighting. Because of that, I think these shelves are better suited for displaying decorative items rather than for growing plants. The biggest issue I had was with assembly. The pre-drilled holes in the shelves and the metal supporting bars did not align particularly well. It is possible to assemble everything, but it takes considerably more effort than it should to get the screws and nuts properly aligned. The instructions have you attach the two supporting bars to the metal frame first and then attach the shelves. Unfortunately, because of the positioning of the pre-drilled holes, this makes it nearly impossible to get everything lined up. I found that the only practical way to assemble them was to loosely attach the supporting bars to the shelves first, then work on aligning the bars with the metal frame before tightening everything down. I also found that the bolts connecting the supporting bars to the rectangular frame are slightly too short, which makes the alignment even more difficult. Providing slightly longer bolts would be a simple improvement that would make assembly much easier. They do provide all of the necessary hardware, and all of the pieces were included in my package. However, there were no extra nuts or bolts, so be sure to lay everything out somewhere secure while assembling them so nothing gets lost. Once assembled, the shelves feel sturdy and well constructed. They also include the hardware needed for wall mounting, including wall anchors and long screws, which is another positive. When I purchased these, they were priced at $29.99 for the two shelves, which I felt was a little high considering the difficulty of assembly. Since then, the price has dropped to $19.99 for the set. At $19.99, I think these are a good value and would recommend them at that price. At the original $29.99 price, however, I would be less enthusiastic. Overall, these are versatile and attractive shelves with some nice features, particularly the rechargeable, magnetic LED lights. In the time I've had it, I haven't had enough time to kill a plant yet, but the versatility and features of this light, especially when compared to its cost (less than a fast food meal), make this a fantastic light. The light comes in pieces and does need some assembling - be sure to remove the plastic cap that protects the threads. The minimum height (unless you open up the tripod a bit) is 41" and the max height is 71". Although a drawback that someone else also mentioned is that at max height, the light is a bit top-heavy and wobbly. This is especially true if all of the light heads are oriented in one direction. The cord is 72" long and the remote and control pad offer lots of options yet seems highly intuitive to operate. For the lights, you can choose the number of lights heads that are on as well as different intensities for the heads. When put onto my volt meter, the light with max brightness and all heads operating pulled only 12.9W. As you diminished the number of heads, the voltage dropped down to as low as 4V. My favorite feature is the timer function. You can turn on the light at a certain time of the day for a certain duration (4, 8 or 12 hours) and then every day at that same time the lights will turn on for that same amount of time. This means that I don't need a separate timer to control it. The big test will be in the winter months when my indoor plants really suffer from lack of daylight. It's not the most attractive light in the house, but if it keeps my plants happy then it's a keeper. With the flexibility of functions and quality of build, I recommend this light as a real bargain. My only complaint during assembly is that the hex socket recesses in the bolt heads are very shallow. They seem to be only around 2 mm deep, so the Allen key kept slipping or falling out while I was tightening everything. Deeper hex sockets would have made assembly a lot easier. The light itself is BRIGHT. I really like how much light it puts out, and it is strong enough that some of my nearby plants can benefit from it as well. I also like that the stand keeps the pot elevated off the floor, which gives the plant a better viewing angle and makes the whole setup look a little more intentional. The controller has the typical options you would expect from a grow light, including brightness adjustment and timer settings for how long you want the light to stay on each day. There is also a watering reminder feature, but I think the implementation could be better. As far as I can tell, the reminder is just a flashing blue LED on the controller itself. If the controller is hidden behind a couch, plant, or piece of furniture, there is a good chance you will never notice it. I think briefly flashing the actual grow light periodically would have been a much more obvious and useful reminder. Overall, I really like this setup. The grow light is impressively bright, the stand displays the plant nicely, and the controls give you plenty of adjustment. Unlike the other grow lights we have, this one apparently only gives off a sort of pinkish purplish looking light (note that it does claim that this is a "full spectrum" light but our other two full spectrum lights show up as red/pink, blue and white so I'm not sure what the difference is). This light takes more effort as far as installation goes. It does need to be installed by either screwing into a board or something or hanging with the chains (yes, it did come with double-sided tape but that just didn't seem like a very sturdy option - hubby and I both thought that it would end up falling on top of our seedlings). We also didn't like that there is no timer or anything like that built in. You have to turn it on and off manually (or, as I think someone noted, plug it into a smart outlet). And it just feels a bit cheap and flimsy. This would probably be better for someone who has a more dedicated setup with shelves or even a greenhouse (and who would maybe have it in a smart outlet or at least on a timer) rather than our setup which is just a shelf in front of a window. These are little burlap grow bags with an opening at the bast for drainage. The box has a removable plastic liner for drainage. There are labels, the seeds of course and a little water sprayer. This kit is pretty comprehensive. My husband got everything ready over the weekend and is now awaiting small grow lights that will fit in the area where he plans to keep this herb garden. He is planting two pots of cilantro as he loves it, mint, parsley and chives. He is thinking of a couple of other herbs as well. he is excited and so am I.
