There is no battery compartment like there is in all my other solar lights. When I finally found it in a spot not meant to be reached, I found the replacement battery would be $10. So now, I watch my remaining 15 lights knowing as soon as they burn out they will be thrown in the garbage. Had I known there was no battery replacement, I would not have purchased them. My experience is that they last about three years before water ingress corrodes the circuit board contacts and causes the device to fail. The seal around the motion detector is just a press fit rubber gasket. I suspect that is where the water gets in. My installation was exposed directly to rain as well as some sub-freezing temperatures, because it was mounted on a pole in my yard, rather than underneath an eave. Perhaps they are weatherproof enough for a protected location where they are not exposed directly, however. I've built a roof over the one that I bought to replace the second failed unit.
