79in Cat Tree 2 The “dark gray” is not gray it’s BLUE archit*** I am very disappointed in this product for many reasons. 1. The color! See photo. My cat is gray, this tower is most definitely blue. That is not what I ordered. 2. Poor design! My 3 month old, 3 pound kitten is able to get around just fine. My adult 10 pound cat has no way to get to the top level; they did not build in adequate ledge space for a normal size cat to maneuver. To get around this issue, we took the platform, drilled a hole in it, and put it where the basket was supposed to go, and then put the basket over on the left. It looks a little more lopsided, but at least it works. See photo. 3. Poor design, part 2 - the hole in level 2 is too far forward! They can’t just jump up to the second level because there’s a hole there. It’s hard for them to get out of the second level cubby because there’s a hole there. If they had just cut the hole a few inches further back, both of those issues would’ve been eliminated. 4. The quality is meh. The pillars are just cardboard tubes. The cubbies are not wood boxes covered in carpet like our old one, the sides are just stretched fabric. I can already see daylight through the thin material, I’m just waiting for my kitten to start shredding it. 5. Poor stability. There’s not a single side made flush to stand against the wall. The ledges stick out. I gave it a generous two stars, because it’s tall, which we like, and it was inexpensive. But you get what you pay for and this is a prime example. B09BCGM3TJ US

(See collage for size examples.) We ordered this over others because: (1) Each level is roughly only a foot higher than the last and there are platforms to get from one area to the next. This accommodates his size and weight. (2) Extra levels and cubbies for him to get a little further from our nosy herding dog. (3) Multiple entrance options to go in and out or hide in the corners. (4) It’s the perfect height for our windows. (5) The cubbies have platforms extending beyond them, so he has room to stretch out. It checks our boxes. The levels are wide enough and short enough for him to get his big old man belly from one platform to another. We turned the tower sideways so the solid side of the middle cubby faces outward because he likes to hide, and that succeeded in keeping the dog away as well. The package came with all pieces and hardware, and the instructions were easy to read. The holes were aligned fine. It took maybe 10 minutes to put together. Some additional factors: (1) It does wobble a little just using my hand to gently shake it, no matter how tight the screws are. In a topple over sort of way, but it’s also kind of twisty at the joints between levels. Not severe, but I suggest at least keeping the back side up against a wall if you have a heavier or more parkour pet. (2) It does smell upon opening the package, like a lumbar yard mixed with paint. It did make our bedroom smell lightly like that but it dissipated after 24 hours. My head is very sensitive to smells, and I did not get a migraine. (3) The fuzz is very fuzzy. Like, feather fine, and does pluck off quite easily. It’s not horrible at the moment and our cat doesn’t scratch at furry things, so it’ll be fine, but there were quite a few fuzzy floaters during the setup process. (4) The sisal is great for cats. But if you run your hand down it, the material is fine enough to give you some mild splinters. (5) Each platform is hard but covered with short fuzz. It’s not plush or squishy, just soft. This doesn’t bother my cat - he prefers to lay on hard items. The top level is sufficiently cushioned and has a cushioned rim. Note that the rim isn’t sturdy, just like the side of a floppy pet bed. This level fits the chunker perfectly. (6) The walls are a thin floppy fabric (with sturdy poles on the inside corners of the cubbies). Don’t care. He’s not going to randomly go full koolaid man someday. Changes? I’d prefer the scratch areas to be larger. The ground-level scratch pole has maybe 6 inches of sisal and it’s so low that my cat won’t be able to use it. The scratch ramp is smaller than I’d expected, even after whipping out a tape measure before ordering. The tall pole is nicer, but still wish it was more sisal than fuzz. The cat’s opinion: He’s never been big on jumping around and prefers human furniture, but he quickly investigated this. I placed him on the top level and he immediately opened a new biscuit factory. I came back into the room later to check in and he’d found his way into the upper cubby. (At 18lbs, he’s able to fit his entire body within the cubby boundaries.) Lastly, he doesn’t care about the dangle toy - just not his style - but it’s in a good location for a cat who did. My opinion: Overall, the cons aren’t con enough to give the product less than five stars. So long as he feels like he has a cozy space of his own, it wins. B09Q17KCMZ US

The carpeting on these is very thin so I am not hopeful it is going to last long but for a tree that ships in essentially a flat pack it’s pretty sturdy once assembled. The biggest problem I have with this, and the first (similar but shorter) tree is that the shelves and boxes are almost too small. They could have easily been made a bit bigger. As it is our 11 pound kitten can barely squeeze into the boxes and spills off the shelves. If you have a 15 lb cat or a large breed like a Maine coon give these a hard pass. Also, if you plan to use it on an open door, like me, you will need a doorstop to keep the door from moving.
