How to make it rock solid- I bought a m18x1.5 bolt then I drilled and tapped the center of it to m12x1.25, cut the top off the bolt, put loctite™ on the threads, put it in the shit knob, then put the knob on to my car and now it works great! P.S. The only m18x1.5 bolt I could find was a grade 8.8 bolt, which means It's quenched and tempered. It finally started to break down and recently a small hole was torn in the top. This was partly because I added rocks to the pit and it made the metal cover stick up a little. The sharp corner caught the fabric and tore it. It would not have torn in the first 6 months I had it, but the weather has taken its toll. If it hadn't torn, I think it may have still been got for another 5-6 months. It still looks fine, just getting a little weak. My fire pit still looks great and starts right up with the built in ignition. So, this cover did a good job for over a year. I figure, $1.50 to $2 a month to protect my fire pit is worth it. I had used a high-heat spray paint a year ago when I purchased it, but that has worn off in spots and allowed some minor rust spots. I sanded off the rust spots, wiped the exposed metal with rust neutralizing gel (naval jelly), then sprayed on grey high-heat primer before providing a final 2 coats with Rutland brush on paint. After about a week, I used a heat gun to cure by heating to approx 500 deg for 1 hour. Had to rig 1 x 2 in wood bracing structure spanning top of the fire pit to keep heat gun nozzle about 8 inches from surface of fire pit and move it around methodically to cure entire 31 in diameter fire pit surface.
