No*** I gave this to my wife as a gift and we used it right away over a fire in our fire pit. It worked much better than expected! We made a total of three batches (one with the included all-in-one packets and two with our own oil and kernels). First, it popped the corn fast. Almost too fast because I wasn't expecting it the first time. Also, I don't think in all three batches there was a single kernel left unpopped and no burnt kernels. Cleanup was a breeze too since we just wiped out the pot with a paper towel and looked good as new. Really made me happy with the purchase. A couple of tips: I shook it pretty vigorously the whole time, which I think helped pop the kernels evenly and completely and avoided burning. Follow the instructions and just wait till there is a couple of seconds pause in popping sounds and then take it off right away. At first, I had a very hard time getting the extending handle off when I was finished. It turns out that you cannot get the handle off if the handle is retracted all the way. The plastic will get in the way and not allow you to push the handle all the way forward. so make sure you extend the handle at least a couple of inches when you try to take the handle off. I did like one of the other buyers did and let the kids pick out their own colors and put it together based on their multi color scheme. It's easy to put together but I have problems with the sturdiness of the chairs. I don't use the set but three times ever other weekend. Seat time is probably 3 hours every other week which is nothing. With that being said, I only have two chairs left for my kids to sit on. The front under part where the legs attach broke while my 3 year old was attempting to sit in the chair. I was lucky that I was behind her because I caught her before she hit the floor. I really like the set but the two staples aren't enough to support kids sitting in them for a period of time and I recommend them adding more support to the staples and it would really be a 5 star product. The company never reached out to make it right either. They can send me two more chairs or all 4 and I'll send these back to them or use them in the fire pit. If they send me just the seat parts to replace the broken one, I would be able to add the legs back to it and have a full set again. I would definitely be a happy customer. B001UE7MWO US
