That way, I can weed out the reviews that are for the shipping, reviews that are for user error, reviews with failure to read the description, or reviews that didn't even know what they were ordering. Now, I am getting back into lighter collection and repair. I saw this listing, and there were comparable ones for slightly cheaper, but I saw reviews that stated these springs failed to spark, which is why I ultimately purchased these, so that I could write a validated review. Tgey were also a good value. These are springs with a brass plunger on the end. They are not supposed to create spark. That is not what they are for. I was scratching my head when I read 1 star reviews stating they did not spark. You are supposed to clear out old flint remnants, add a a new proper sized flint, then put in this sping with brass plunger. As for those who are complaining about what these do and some on how they do not fit, the description clearly states what size these are, and that while they do fit many lighters, they don't fit all of them. While I didn't exactly need these right now, I immediately replaced the spring in a brand new Zippo that I also installed a rubber gasket as well. So, this spring had to be an exact fit. As anyone can clearly see in my very short video, these clearly apply enough pressure onto the flint so that the striker wheel creates an abundent spark and ignites the atomized lighter fluid quickly. The original Zippo spring and plunger are on the right in the image. There is an image of the new spring and plunger installed. I also posted an image of the lighter as it is lit, in case the video did not show the lighter that was used clearly. I am not someone getting compensation for good reviews. I do not break the rules. I just want to give a review that is honest and shows exactly what the product is and does. I will say that these springs are black instead of stainless steel in appearance. I have not checked them to see if they are stainless, but since they are immersed in a petroleum based medium, I do not see them corroding from moisture exposure. While they are made in China and not OEM parts, that does not take away from the fact that they are very well priced for ten of these, well packaged, well constructed, and compatible with Zippo lighters. I do also notice that the knurling on the screw is a little more aggressive than the OEM Zippo screw, which makes it easier to grip an turn. I intentionally pulled on the spring on one of these to see how strong these are. They are just as strong and possibly a little stronger that the original spring. I don't mind the spring pushing harder on the flint and wearing it quicker because I want to make sure I get a good strike every time. I can replace a flint. I can't replace life when I relied on a faulty lighter to start a fire while I am out roughing it in the wilderness in the winter. And yes, I always keep extra flints that I know are tried and true to create a spark. If anything, I will stretch the spring on these a little before installing them to make sure I have even better flint to striker engagement. Again, if you are new to lighters, have never replaced a spring and plunger, never replaced a flint, you must remember that these are not a flint and do not provide a spark. The only reason you need to replace your spring and plunger is that most of the time, the user wore the flint out under normal use, but saw what they thought was a flint and kept on trying to strike the lighter, and ultimately, they ruined the spring plunger. That is the biggest reason springs need to be replaced. Sadly, some people think that the plunger is the flint and waste money to replace the spring and plunger when all they needed to do was replace the flint. Yes, I know that it seems that no one would make this simple of a mistake, but it does happen. The best way to avoid damaging the plunger on the spring is to buy flints that are a different color so that you know when the flint is gone. You can tell when your flint is getting short on just about any striker lighter. There is a small gap. You can see your flint. As these have a brass plunger, get readily available black, silver, or red coated flints. In summery, these are well made, they fit many striker lighters, there are ten at a really good price, and as you can see from the image and video, they do work well. Yes, you can buy generic flints and wicks for your Thorens lighters, but when you buy these, you know that you are getting exactly what fits in your Thorens lighters. Now, I do not have any original Thorens lighters, but since my new Thorens lighters are exact copies of the originals, I am sure these will fit originals also. They also come in nice, tidy, and collectable packaging, if that is your thing. Now, I sometimes use a generic flint in my Thorens lighters, only because they are cheaper, but those generics are also softer and wear out quicker. I really like these red wicks with the insertion needle. This makes it so much easier to install wicks, even with enclosed fuel reservoirs and side fills. You have to use tweezers with those side fill lighters anyways, so grabbing that needle from the inside is easier than grabbing a wick that doesn't want to angle toward the side fill. I have a pocket watch style Thorens with a clear window to see the fluid and the wick. It just looks cooler with the red wick inside and not the white wick. Now with each of these wicks with needles, there is enough wick that you can change the wick in two or more lighters with just one of these. The wick is a good length. They also hold fluid nicely and allow for a good burning flame. I really like that Thorens also places the flints in a nostalgic red dispenser. These flints are good quality and strike very well. I have two spring loaded Thorens lighters that do not rely on my thumb or other finger to apply pressure to or spin the strike wheel. As these rely only on the pressure of the internal spring and plunger and the frame, and also only rely on the short stroke of the cover striker mechanism, you really need a reliable flint like the OEM Thorens flint. Now, there are a lot of purists who don't like these Chinese made Thorens and Chinese made Thorens parts. No, these are no longer made in Switzerland like the originals. The original company no longer owns the rights to make the lighters and parts. Oh well, such is life. This has happened to other rather upscale vintage niche collectibles that mostly gentlemen carried, like fountain pens, pen knifes, straight razors, nail clippers, etc. It doesn't mean that these are junk items. On the contrary. These are high quality items, sometimes better built than the originals Sure, I wish these were still made in Switzerland, but I am happy that the name and quality continues on. If you are getting into amateur lighter collection and light repair, or you just use your Thorens lighter or lighters that much, these are good to keep on hand. They look similar to the originals. The plungers seal well and move with very little rotation, and the valve clears fully out of the flow when opened. Hoses with threaded nuts, were tight on the first fit. The valve stem needed to be eased into the hose without messing with the gasket. Once the gasket enters the hose, the seal is watertight. The threading is different from a few of my other pool connections, but the included adapters make it easy to clamp onto hoses and ports. The valves move smoothly and shut off flow. I put a thin trail of this bait across the threshold, and the ants no longer come in. But I don't know how long it will last. I think this bait kills the colony, but once one ant colony is gone, another colony may come along. So it would be important to ensure some bait remains in place for a while. But its longevity probably varies with location, amount applied, and if the bait gets wet. This kit includes plenty of bait for multiple applications - either over time or in multiple locations. AeroPress Steel Coffee Press, Stainless Steel, Silver 4 Heavy Duty, Great Coffee, Needs Stainless Filter- Has Lining In Tube Area Color*** I first started using an original Aeropress when out of town on a vacation with people who did not drink coffee. I wanted to get something to make coffee so I got it at an off grid shop. Since then I graduated to a variety of pour over options from hario to a rechargable espresso maker and more. I stopped using the plastic version because it cooled off way too fast and the plastic aspect was not something I wanted. I saw this and for the first time since getting the original Aeropress, I was intrigued and willing to try. HOW THIS COMES This comes well packed in a multi-sided box which is well protected, yet compact. Everything is packed in well and if you really wanted to keep the parts in the box for a while, you can. QUALITY This is a lot heavier than the original. This might be daunting to someone who is used to the lightweight version. To me it is not that heavy and I find it easy to work with. The quality of the parts is pretty good. The markings are easy to read and the plunger is a good fit. The bottom is thick and although metal, it screws into place and holds well. LINING The only part of this that I am not fond of is that there is a coating on the inner part of the coffee brewing compartment. It resembles the kind of lining in frying pans that they call "ceramic". I am not saying that is what it is, but it is definitely some sort of lining. I did not recall seeing this metioned obviously in the description so I was a bit disappointed. PROCEDURE This is not hard to use. It is just big enough to fill an entire mug for coffee- unlike the original that I used which was too small of an amount that needed water added. CAP The cap fits on tightly. It is kind of hard to get off but it works. It will get hot so I just get a heat proof glove and twist it off if I can't get it to a sink to rinse it in cool water first. FILTER I prefer a metal filter, so I used the one that I got for my original Aeropress. I also got a couple more sizes for different filtering purposes for different grinds of coffee. I prefer not to use the paper filters that come with this, but they give enough for a couple of weeks worth of coffee unless you drink a lot more. Make sure it is a thin filter if you get a meta one because the metal is rigid and anything to thick will make the bottom not screw on well enough. You can not put two filters on top of each other. EASE OF USE I have to say at this point in time, I have an injury that is taking a long time to heal which prevents me from being able to stand a lot. If I have boiling water put in a carafe to keep it hot, i can leave this on the table when no one is home and make myself a nice cup of coffee easily without taking up much room. DOES IT STAY WARM? The coffee stays a LOT warmer than it did with the plastic version of the Aeropress. i am very happy with the heat proofing on the tube. It keeps the coffee hot without being too hot to hold. CLEANING The puck in this pushes out more easily than my original. The metal filter sticks to the bottom so I peel it off and the grounds are a puck that pops off into the discard container that I use. The plunger does not go down as intensely as it does with the original, so this makes for a less compacted puck. I don't find that to be a problem, so I just use it without noticing a huge difference. COFFEE QUALITY I have to say that if you use the two scoops of coffee recommended in direcctions it can make the coffee a bit too strong. Other coffees are pretty good. You have to use trial and error. We have tried four different coffees in this and the result was a really good quality cup of coffee using 1 1/2 or 1/3/4 scoops of coffee, filling it to the 5 mark. We are happy with it. DOES IT GET HOT? The tube does not get hot- it gets warm. There are no issues holding on to it, even after a few cups of coffee in a row. The only part that gets hot is the bottom that holds the filter, but as I said, heat proof gloves help me take it off and move forward. THE BOTTOM LINE This is a heavy duty version of Aeropress. Jay*** First of all, grandkids went nuts when they found out I got a shaved ice machine. One point for grandpa. I was a little skeptical when I first unboxed the machine as it's a bit smaller than I imagined and it's made of plastic, but the base is heavy and the overall strength of the plastic pieces is very good. It was packed/packaged very well. I like that there are only a few components, the base, top, plunger, and ice shaver. The top pops off easily by just pressing 2 buttons, one each side of the base, so super easy to attach and detach. I also like that it's rechargeable with the included USB cable, and it has a light that shows if the battery is low and when it's fully charged. The ice shaver itself is made of plastic with sharp metal blades. My only concern is if the plastic breaks, then the shaver is probably not going to do it's job, but so far so good. We shaved some ice with the first use and it did a great job! The ice was a fine snowy texture that soaked up the juice we poured in it and again, the grandkids loved it. This does not give you the tiny ice chips you may have had with a snow cone, it's a very fine shaved ice. The thing I like most, is using it with frozen fruit! It does an awesome job and the fruit comes out in these little curled pieces. Great on their own or drop them on top of some icecream. I was going to comment on the price as I thought $49.99 was a bit too much for the size and the fact it's plastic, but as I looked at other machines it's competitive in term of pricing. J Ba*** As of 30 August 2026, I am the third person to review this amazing little lighter. As with any flint and kerosene style lighter, there is always at least one con but with this one, the con only comes with Thorens not providing better instructions and a proper screwdriver tool like with their other lighters. Now the pluses. This is a sealed kerosene type lighter. No, the snuffer does not have an o-ring inside to seal it, but it screws down tight enough that there is virtually no evaporation. As always, these new Thorens lighters come with an extra spare long red wick on a needle and five spare flints. Since this lighter only needs a short wick, not one wrapped all in a cotton filled fuel reservoir, this spare wick wick work for a few replacements, if you ever need to replace the wick from accidental burning without enough fuel or drying out and becoming brittle from lack of use after being filled. The lighter comes nicely packaged in the little plastic protective bag inside of the standard flour sack material white pouch with Thorens in red lettering. This is inside the red gift box with the extra flints and wick/needle. The only difference from other Thorens lighters is that this one doesn't come with the flat disc screwdriver. I doesn't need one, but it does need a narrow flat head screwdriver to replace the flint. This is also where the instructions provided in the box don't show how to change the flint like what is shown in the product description image here. But, it was easy to figure out. Be careful when you do replace the flint. That little spring and plunger will go flying when you do unscrew it. The striker wheel/flint assembly is different in that it pulls straight out to replace the flint. I check the flint replacement steps on every new lighter before I use it to make sure I know the correct way before filling the lighter. Once it became clear, it was relatively easy. Moving on. The lighter is heavier and bigger, all the way around, than standard Thorens and Zipoos. It will not fit in a standard lighter pouch. So, if you do get a carrying pouch, make sure you measure first. This lighter is sealed very well, unlike generic versions with the open view fuel reservoir. You can see the o-rings inside the reservoir. The fill port fills easily, and since you can see how much fuel is going in, you have less chance of overfilling. The snuffer unscrews and screws down secure rather easily. The striker works flawlessly. As for the only 4 star review at the moment that the only other 5 star review references as well, the lighter will not burn you when you are placing the snuffer back over the lit wick. This isn't a raging inferno, and you aren't holding your fingers over the flame or holding the snuffer over the flame for that long. You are more likely to get burned while closing the lid on a Zippo or other similar lid closure types. If it's that big of a concern, it is easily blown out just like any other kerosene type lighter. In my short video, you can see how easy it is to snuff the flame with the snuffer/wick cover without even remotely burning myself. Everything about this lighter is beautiful. It also gives off strong nostalgic vintage vibes. This is a very gift able lighter. It also works well with Zippo lighter fluid. I imagine I will wear the black printed Thorens label off of the side, eventually. I do wish that it had been engraved in the side. I may get that done before long, along with other inscriptions. It's one of those lighters that would look great with personalized engravings on it. Currently, I own several jet lighters, Zippos, and a few other Thorens. I like the Thorens and Zippos equally, but this one stands out more than the rest. I wish this one had been made when I first started collecting lighters. It is now my favorite vintage trench style lighter. I can't wait for my leather pouch that fits it to come in. While I may or may not carry this while I'm out in the woods camping or roughing it, I will definitely use this as my EDC. No, I do not smoke, but you never know when you'll need to use a lighter. I burn a lot of candles and incense, and this handles those tasks. Buy this if you collect lighters, if you need a good quality lighter, if you have a friend or loved one who would appreciate a fine lighter. I'm also surprised that this is priced currently at $59.99. This is easily just as nice as lighters I've paid hundreds for, and definitely as nice as the higher priced Thorens single and double claw lighters. I did label a few with "iron" in case a manager questions the liquid, but the simple vial brings fewer questions and just looks like part of her lunch.
