It's called an air fryer because that's all the buzz these days, but as far as I can tell, an air fryer is nothing more than a convection oven (an oven with a fan). When it's just my wife and I eating dinner, this has replaced our expensive dual in-wall oven for the most part. It's not suited for when my kids are eating with us, which is obviously expected in a counter top oven. It can certainly turn bread into toast, but it's so much more than a toaster oven. One of our most common uses is making oven fries that only get a light coating of olive oil and a custom cajun seasoning. It crisps them up great and the preset seems to be just the right temperature and cooking time. The absolute maximum width (left to right) for a pan is 14". The maximum depth (front to back) is 12.5". It also has a wireless probe for monitoring the temperature of the meat you're cooking. While I find it to be accurate and very handy, it's a bit thick and it can be cumbersome on some cuts of meat due to its thickness. Overall it's definitely a welcome addition. Some of the features I don't need, such as app control or AI recipe generator, but others might dig deeper into these functions and find them useful. Either way, make sure you don't lose the instructions! Overall if you're looking for a fast, fairly quiet, attractive more-than-a-toaster-oven table top oven, this is an easy recommendation. The whole chicken I baked in this pot was juicy and delicious! I am glad I read the directions on how to use and take care of the pot. I think you need 2 thick pot holder mitts, aluminum foil, and a meat thermometer before you begin. I lined the bottom with aluminum foil halfway up the pot. I bought this cast iron pot that is ceramic coated, because cast iron bakes faster and more evenly. The pot and lid are so beautiful, it is easy to forget it is cast iron underneath. The pot with the lid on is HEAVY, weighs almost 14 lbs. When I put my 7 lb. whole chicken in the pot, the combined weight was more than 20 lbs. If you bake vegetables with it, the weight is even higher! I needed to prepare ahead of time where I was going to put the pot when I took it out of my oven. I would need thick pot holder mitts to protect my hands and a large trivet to place the pot on and/or a thick towel doubled up to protect the countertop to put the lid on. The lid would also be extra hot, since I had to take the lid off to use my meat thermometer. I was suppose to bake the chicken for 140 min. (20 min. for each lb.) in an oven preheated to 400 degrees, but instead I baked it at 390 degrees for 120 min., because cast iron gets hotter and the pot stays hot longer. I used the meat thermometer to check to see if it was done. If it was done, I put the lid back on and let it sit in the pot. This made it possible for me to use the oven for something else. By waiting to take it out of the pot to put on the platter, it stayed hot and the bird did not fall apart. I own 2.5 food thermometers (not including this one). I say .5 because it’s on its way into the trash. This is a lightweight and accurate handy gadget that is an absolute necessity for the fancy chef and/or home cook like myself. I use it to check the temperature of my pan fried steak’s doneness with the thin side. I like to make sure my refrigerator is staying cold by dipping the thick side into a cup of water I leave in over night. I guess I do silly and overly-cautious things from my restaurant manager days. One more reason it’s a good thing to have dual probes is whenever I’m cooking a whole roasted chicken, I’ve poked the thigh when my timer goes off, only to have pink juice spill out of the piercing. That means the meat is still underdone. So I set the timer 10 extra minutes. The second poke comes out the perfect 165 F. While I’m roasting chicken, I’m making mashed potatoes, setting the table, yelling at pets, etc. I don’t have time to sanitize the food poisoned probe before I poke my bird for the second time. So this dual probe comes in really helpful for me. It seems like a small thing, but for someone with chronic severe pain who has to cook, every little extra thing just takes away from my allotted daily energy. I use lean meats and I trim off most of the fat and it is pretty much smokeless. I still use it on the stove and have the hood running. It leaves nice char marks on the meat. The estimated timing and heat settings are pretty close to the mark but I use a meat thermometer to make sure my steaks are medium rare. It is easy to clean. The bottom drip pan usually wipes clean. I end up soaking the top grill for an hour or two and then it is a breeze to clean the top. The underneath of the grill isn't copper coated and sometimes it takes a bit of effort to clean. I tried soaking it longer but it made no difference cleaning the underside. I haven't used the flat top pan yet. I'm glad we got the large unit. I can fit three large ribeyes on it (4#) or about 6 large burgers. It takes only about 5 minutes or so to heat up depending on how high the temperature needs to be.
