ASUS Xonar Phoebus ROG Gaming Soundcard Set Sound Cards 4 Great Sound (but be careful with Bose headphones) gxa*** I've decided to update my review since I finally now have headphones that work with this card. However, I will start with a bit of warning to users of Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones. My pair will only work with this card if they are plugged into the speaker port. Plugging them into the headphone port cause static noise. My best guess is that there's something going on with the powered headset jack causing interference with the noise cancelling or some such in the headphones. Someone on the official forums said it's working fine with thier QuietComfort 15 headphones, so your mileage may vary. Just beware that you may run into issues if you use similar headphones. On to the rest of the review... I really like the card and I've gotten to play around with a number of the features at this point. The software has some good configuration options but still has numerous bugs and issues to be worked out. For example, while switching between headphones and speakers, I somehow confused the software and it wouldn't switch back to the speakers without a system reboot. Also, some of the features don't save their state like I'd like them to. For my DT880 headphones, I really need to up the Gain setting. It will remember it until I reboot at which point it will reset the setting back to normal gain. There also appears to be some severe issues with the current drivers and certain games like BF3. These will probably get worked out in time but they really should have done more game testing for a card sold for "gamers". You'll see in the comments some users telling me the card simply doesn't support 2.0 headphones and that's why my Bose didn't work. Don't believe this for a second. The driver detects my headphones just fine and does have options to simulate surround sound. I've never found these effects to be that great but the feature is there for people who like it. The breakout box that comes with the card is pretty nice. It also functions as a microphone. The microphone quality could be a lot better but the beam forming setting worked better than I thought. I could actually play reasonably loud music in the background and it wouldn't come through in the mic. I'll still probably use an external mic though, just because of quality. I really like the sound quality this card puts out but I'm definitely not an audiophile (so if you are, you'll have to read some other reviews). Pros: + Good Sound Quality (Amazing compared to onboard motherboard audio) + Nice Configuration Options + Breakout Box - I really like this feature, you can control headphone volume, it works as a mic, and much more. Cons: - Buggy Software / Poor Drivers (hopefully this will improve with time) - May not work with certain powered noise cancelling headphones Conclusion: I was debating between a 3 or 4 based on the issues I've had with the card. However, because the drivers and software can be fixed (hopefully they are) and this is the first release, I'm going to take that out of the equation and take off 1 star for the lack of support for my Bose headphones. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 12, English (Old Version) 4 Dragon naturally speaking premium 12, works for me! LH*** I will dictate this complete review using Dragon NaturallySpeaking premium 12. I purchased Dragon natural speaking premium 12 for two reasons. First, I wanted a product that would transcribe material from a digital recorder. Much of what I do is first recorded on a tape or digital recorder. I would then spend as much as an hour and a half to two hours transcribing the material. My keyboard skills are medium to good but I am in no way a 100 word per minute typist. Dragon natural speaking will transcribe an 1800 word document in less than four minutes, although the result is an 1800 word long. Once transcribed it now takes only 10 to 15 minutes to punctuate and format into paragraphs and sentences. The accuracy of the transcription is very good and is getting better as I train Dragon Natural Speaking. Secondly, I wanted a product that I could use for dictation purposes which is the hallmark of Dragon Natural Speaking. I have several volumes of handwritten material that I want to publish and with Dragon I can now transcribe that material with ease. I rated this product with four stars for one simple reason. The Viacom microphone included in the package did not work with my computer soundcard. I contacted tech support and was told that Nuance knew there was a compatibility problem with Realtec soundcards and that I needed a USB adapter. My research led me to finally purchase a Viacom adapter from the Nuance website which ended up costing me an additional $25 ($15 for the adapter, and $10 for shipping). If Nuance knew there was a problem with certain sound cards the adapter should have been included in the package with the headset as it is with the upgraded professional version. For those users with compatible gaming headsets or existing adapters you can add the final star to the rating. Overall, I am satisfied with this product and use it regularly to dictate new material and to transcribe recorded material. The concept is awesome. When I first tried it out, the sound was barely audible. After a couple minutes I realized this was just because the magnets were not all the way in. When you get these things to fall directly onto your eardrum, trust me, you'll know. It's a rather jarring feeling the first time you do it. Once it was there sound quality was and volume were both better than I expected when I made the purchase. Would have been a 5/5 except for one thing: It's durability. By durability, I don't mean "It shouldn't have broken when I smashed it with a hammer." I mean that I keeps burning out. After about half an hour of using it, it started behaving oddly and gradually getting real quiet. A few minutes later, it started smoking. Figuring it was just defective, I contacted the company and was able to get a replacement. Same problem. This time I stopped using it before the smoking, when the sound was just starting to go, so that it isn't completely destroyed in case I eventually meet someone who knows how to fix it. It's unfortunate because if this problem were fixed it would IMO easily be the best of this type of earphone available on amazon. One burn out is just a defect. Two is shoddy craftsmanship. New 4 star review: Several months later I've now gotten around to replacing the burnt out peices on the circuit board on my own. While it did work for over an hour (meaning they still used a lower quality power amplifier) it did get hotter than it should have. The next day, when I went to go use it again, It wouldn't work at all due to the wires in the microphone provided with the "necklace" being ripped off the button. After soldering those back on it not only regained function, it stopped overheating. I have no idea how a poor connection in one place could overheat a part in a completely different location (without the battery between them) but it doesn't really matter. When the replacement necklace was sent to me, they didn't also send a replacement 3.5mm jack (which contains the mic.) Thus, when i connected the new part I was still using a defective part with it. Panasonic is the only manufacturer I know that offers the 3 light sensor option, that professionals prefer, while offering it at consumer pricing. This new investment did not disappoint. Its an excellent camera with the manual controls I need to frame the right shot. I read some reviews about fan noise in earlier models, but I haven't noticed any noise problem in this model. the movies are crisp and the colors are vibrant. The microphone, like my old model, has excellent range. I've never had to used an external mic on these cameras, but it's comforting to know they are equipped to use one. This camera has the new wifi feature for external control. Since this is version 1, I'll give them a break. Someone needs to go back to the drawing board for the Droid interface. I was at least hoping I could use my phone to act as a remote control, since there is no remote unit that comes with this camera. MEE audio Runaway 4.0 Bluetooth Stereo Wireless + Wired Headphones with Microphone (Red) 4 Very happy Johnn*** First off, I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but I've bought more headphones and headsets than my fair share and I know what I'm looking for. These were purchased to replace a pair of Creative WP-350s which just snapped apart one day after about a year and a half of near constant use. I came across the MEE set when researching the new Creative 450s, and was tempted to switch manufacturers and take a gamble on this fancier-looking set. Kudos to Amazon for getting them from Kentucky to Singapore in four days - very pleasantly surprised to receive the package two days earlier than expected. What struck me immediately about the set was the retro Japanese 80s styling! The high gloss plastic, silver bar buttons and Ray-Ban style script on the band reminded me of my first mini hifi system from about 1987. There's nothing cheap about the build though - it feels solid yet light, and the earpads and headband pad are buttery soft. Lovely in the hands and on the head, although the on-ear fit did make my ears a bit sweaty after a while. But this is Singapore, so I don't know how you'll get on. Buttons are responsive, and once you get used to what does what, easy to work when wearing. I've paired it with my WindowsPhone, laptop, iPad, iPhone and TV, all worked first time with no issues. Using them with my phone lets me make calls, which people report as being far, far clearer than the Creative set allowed. Despite what some reviewers have reported, you can pause and resume music (tapping the on/standby key) as well as scan, skip, and take calls. Some have grumbled about having to charge them using an unusual jack to USB instead of a micro-USB, since if you lose that it would be harder to find another one. I imagine if you're in the habit of losing your cables there's plenty in life to grumble about. I found that having the jack input (together with the supplied jack to jack tangle-free cable) gave me far more options for wired and wireless use, and doesn't inconvenience me in the least. Music quality is very good indeed. Being bluetooth, quality is bound to suffer a bit, but here it's barely noticeable except for a slightly shallow feel to the midrange. Bass is deep and satisfying, and the phones will crank up pretty loud, and cope very well with a big audio profile. I've played a lot of ambient stuff, classical piano, deep trance, hard rock, Hungarian gypsy, string quartets and audiobooks, and been impressed with everything so far. I'm not easily-pleased in this regard...I like beautifully-sounding sets, but I've compromised on quality a lot in the past for the convenience of bluetooth. I hadn't used Bluetooth headphones since the early iterations and I was surprised at how well this performs. Battery life runs all day (even after months of hard use) and the ability to sync to two devices is great. Range is pretty good, too. I can get almost across the house before it looses contact. Sound quality is good to my ear and the volume is adequate in all but the loudest conditions (and it probably shouldn't get any louder.) There's still room for improvement. It annoyingly repeats "Out of Range" if it looses contact with one device, so turn off Bluetooth if you're leaving one behind. Audio SHP9500 HiFi Precision Stereo Over-Ear Headphones (Black) 4 Quality headphones for a decent price Ti*** I own some much more expensive audiophile headphones, so I wasn't expecting much from these in terms of sound quality, but I was surprised to find that they sound quite good. The main reason I bought these was to use them for Zoom calls with a Vmoda microphone that plugs into the detachable 3.5mm jack on the left earpiece, and they work well for that use case. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is that they do fit very loose on my head as they have almost no clamping pressure for me even at the smallest setting - the headphone cups do not touch even when they are just sitting on the table with nothing between them. This does make them pretty comfortable as they won't feel like they're putting pressure on your head, but they also feel like they could fall off if you bend over to pick something up. Not a huge deal, but worth noting as it might bug some people. Otherwise, no real complaints. Happy with the purchase and would likely buy again if I broke them. B00EVNVSFI US
