Mary Wi*** This neat little device calls itself a programmable rice cooker, but (for me) ends up being something between a slow cooker and a pressure cooker. I've been taking frozen ground beef out of the freezer and cooking it on the slow cooker setting of this device in preparation of turning it into soup and chili and was truly impressed by two things: one was that it got the meat more tender and easier to break apart than my regular slow cookers ever did, despite using less water, and the other was that it fully cooked the ground beef faster than my slow cooker. I was surprised on all of these points. I knew that having a gasketed, vented lid would help it to hold in moisture and cook faster, but not to such a degree! I haven't had a working, full-sized stove for years, rather relying on my various cooking gadgets, but this little powerhouse won me over within a day with how well it cooked! It even let me make a full pot of chili that looked and tasted as if it had simmered in the slow cooker all day, in only a few hours. I was much impressed. No device is perfect, though, and it does bother me quite a bit that the inner lid with gasket can't be removed to be washed in the dishwasher, nor can the vent, like it can on my smaller rice cooker. This is a major bummer for me, because I'll typically go out of my way to purchase kitchen gadgets with removable plates and pieces just so they can be thoroughly washed, easily. So far I'm doing ok with washing it with warm water and vinegar, but I can already tell it'll be a source of worry in the future. I also find myself wishing that the lid was hinged front-to-back because, in the place where I've got set aside for it in my kitchen space, the lid opens on the opposite side that I need it to. Having a front-to-back hinged lid would make it more handy for my circumstances. I just don't have much space to work with. This is truly a nitpicky thing, though, because this device is versatile, fast, and fabulous, and it's so quickly become one of my main appliances that it's going to be difficult if I ever have to do without it! I would not use it if I didn’t know it was a toxin free non stick material. Another feature is a delay cooking option. I am currently trying the brown rice setting. I can’t see the progress of my rice because of the condensation on the lid. I just got home and I can’t tell how much longer it has to cook. I guess I am used to my instapot display. I plan on using this next for making breakfast cereal. My 8quart instapot is just too large for making an overnight breakfast so I look forward to trying this one. Ditto with odors. I haven’t had any problems with odor and the liners don’t affect the taste of the cooked meal. Finally, clean up and disposal is a snap. Just wait until the slow cooker is cool, then remove the liner and toss it in the trash. Too easy. In a nutshell and in just a few words these liners are….time-savers, easy to use, and easy to dispose of. I highly recommend them if you want to maintain a healthy relationship with your slow cooker. Amazon C*** This multi cooker is pretty nice it is basically like an electric warmer. It has a large metal plate with a safty switch built into it that the meatal insert fits into. So it heats the large metal plate and transfers the heat into the bottom of the metal insert. The bottom is mostly plastic and the lid doesn't have any kind of latches to hold it to the cooker. But it does seam pretty durable. And lighter than traditional slow cookers. That being said with it not being ceramic and being a thinner metal it does loose heat faster not extremely fast but noticeably faster. It looks very nice and functions nice. I saw "this" gravity sensor coffee mug warmer, and I was like, "yes, this will be amazing" - and what come today, after almost 3 weeks? A sourdough starter warmer. Yeah, I'm shaking my head too. I was trying to get past the "it says sourdough, not coffee, doesn't look a thing like the item in the photo, etc." but then reality set in - it can't be set past 110 degrees, with either a potential error rate, or designed rate, of up to 15 degrees warmer, so it MAY get as high as 125 degrees. Here's an inside tip - I bravely put my hand on the "do not touch" area - and it was very warm - but not hot. By comparison, our sous vide slow cooker runs at about 134 degrees - it is uncomfortably warm but not burning in that water. I don't know whether this is an Amazon or the company's issue, but I suspect not Amazon - the box actually says sourdough printed on it, as do the instructions, however the sticker on the box says what it was supposed to be - the "Smart Coffee Mug Warmer...." - well, you can see the photo. I've been trying, and I don't think the lukewarm temperature will make any dent to the inside of my Yeti. So, buyer beware, but this was an absolute dud for me.
