I like that my ten year old Dalmatian doesnt have to bend down all the way to the floor and it definitely looks better to see her eating this way as she occasionally chokes and coughs out a piece of kibble. I do not use one side for water as i know she will drop kibble in it while she eats. So I use one side for her soft foods (chicken, rice, noodles , yam etc) and the other side for the kibble. She was not afraid to use it, but we hit a snafu when the wet foods were nearly gone and the pan began to rattle around when she went to lick the bottom. That scared her. My daughter’s dog that is greedier doesnt care if it rattles. A client dog (Boxer) is scared of her tags banging the bowl. I am going to either buy ceramic bowls to fit it, or put rubber drawer liners in the holes to see if it keeps it from rattling. Four stars because a rubber lip would have fixed it. It forces them to eat at a slower pace, and that can be a life saver, especially if you have a large dog with a deep chest and thin waist, as they are most susceptible to bloat. Unfortunately, I should have ordered a Medium instead of a small medium, but I thought my Beagle would fit in the small/medium sized bowl. I chose the taller legs and it's still a little low. I tried the steel bowl for his food but he really needs a slower feed bowl. However, even with the height of that slow feed bowl, it's still a little low. Now onto the product itself....it's nice and well made. It's made of Bamboo. The legs are impressive. They provide 2 different sets. Easy to put together- just pick your leg height and put in a screw. It even comes with little rubber bumpers to protect your floor. Nice! The bowls state they are food grade, which is always important. I love that it tilts downward. Most elevated bowls are elevated front to back but the tilt helps the dog reach the back of the bowl more easily. Also a nice touch! Our beagle is about 22 lbs and certainly not one of the more robust beagles one sees. So being on the small size, I thought the small/medium would work. I should have gotten the medium, however. Pricewise I think it's a bit pricey currently at $39 with a coupon for $37. All of the touches were nice, and it seems really well made. But even still, I'm not sure that price point is right. Dog Lick Bowl with Rolling Ball, Slow Feeder Dog Bowl, 16 fl oz 3 Great bowl, but need to figure out how to flatten the mat Jen*** I purchased a slow feeding bowl to see if my dogs would take to it. They loved it so much that they fought over it. Decided to get this larger bowl in the hopes that they will share it as they are smaller dogs. If not I can use it in conjunction with the other bowl. The design makes it super easy to take apart and clean as shown below. My only problem is that the bowl came wrapped in plastic which warped the square mat portion of it. I was hoping that it would straighten out on its own but it still won't lay evenly on the floor (pictured below) The suction cups are no help as they don't stick well to the wood floor. I'm considering taking a hair dryer to it to see if maybe heat will help it relax into a flat shape. Other than that, love the quality of the silicone and the thoughtful variety of different surface textures on the mat to keep the dogs engaged. Unlike some similar products I've seen, it doesn't appear to create an obvious choking hazard, which gives me much more confidence using it with my dogs. The entire feeder is also surprisingly heavy, and there are plenty of suction cups around the outer edge of the base that do an excellent job keeping it securely in place. The only downside I found is that it's fairly easy for a smart, determined dog to get to the rolling ball. While that didn't stop my dogs from enjoying it, it did shorten the challenge for them.
