I had recently tried a similar product (now discontinued), but Clark never quite understood the water mechanism on that one. This Onikcor version is definitely more intuitive. The water area is easier for Clark to recognize, and the suction base keeps the bowl from sliding or tipping, even when he gets rambunctious. The design itself is clever and unlike anything I grew up with—back then, dogs stayed outside, eating and drinking from whatever old pan were handy. Only in later years have some started using more specialized pet items, and this one is certainly innovative. Clark’s personality plays a big role in how he uses this bowl. He will eat dry food from it—I’ve posted a short video showing that—but he barely drinks from it. Part of that may be household dynamics: my wife prefers traditional open bowls and keeps one filled when our grandkids’ very old dog stays with us on weekends. With two dogs and two different water sources, Clark naturally gravitates toward the familiar bowl instead of the enrichment-style one. If water splashes onto the kibble, Clark tries to flip the food upward with his nose, as if he’s trying to move it to a dry spot on the floor. The suction base prevents him from tipping the bowl completely, but his vigorous efforts do cause some water to slosh. He ignored the food on the earlier version of this product, but he does eat from this one—IF the food stays dry. I can’t say whether he’ll ever fully adapt to the roller-ball licking feature or the multi-texture mat. In a one-dog household with consistent signals, he might eventually catch on. But in our situation—mixed cues and a visiting senior dog—Clark seems to prefer the traditional setup. The product itself appears well made, thoughtfully designed, and easy to clean. My uncertainty is not about the quality—it’s simply about whether Clark will ever use it the way it was intended. Unfortunately, I haven’t even been able to properly use it yet. It arrived folded and squished into the box, and despite giving it plenty of time to relax back into shape, it still won’t lay flat. That’s particularly problematic because the suction cups on the bottom can’t make good contact with the floor. Instead of sticking securely in place, portions of the mat remain lifted. For a product that’s specifically designed to stay put while a dog licks and works at it, that’s a pretty significant issue. I could probably experiment with ways to flatten it myself, but I don’t really think a brand-new product should require that much intervention before its first use. The concept is good, and I still hope I can eventually get it flattened enough to use as intended. As it arrived, though, it’s been disappointing. I tried it in several different dog dishes and the suction was adequate with all of them, metal and plastic. It did slow down my dogs eating. I used it in a large metal bowl that wasn’t a good fit for it, but it still worked to slow down the beast that is Moonie. 🐕 😊 the slow feeder works best in a bowl where it has a good fit inside of the bowl. The slow feeder even suctioned really well on top of different slow feeder bowl that was too shallow for Moonie. Combining them together, actually worked the best in slowing her down. And please don't give your dog OJ like the product image! J*** I like the idea of the mat around the bowl, but the bowl is useless because you are not supposed to give dogs anything other than water. The picture of the person pouring orange juice should be changed because that is absolutely not ok to give dogs. I really hope people do not use the picture for ideas. I used the mat for a little yogurt and peanut butter. I put it in the freezer and it was a great treat for them. As far as the bowl goes, I took the bowl cover off and used the bowl stand for a few extra licks of the pb and yogurt and frozen water combo. I do not give it to them every day. It is not super easy to clean but the part that makes it harder to clean is the fun challenging part for the dogs in the intricacies of the designs. This feeder insert really helps slow him down, and he doesn't hate it. It seems to be really good quality because he can't yank it out of the bowl and it doesn't move around so the suction works well and the material stands up to chewing. It's super easy to plop in the dish and pop out to wash. I think the cost fits the quality of the product and makes it worthwhile to purchase. It fits in his elevated bowl perfectly, which is about 7 inches across. While my dog isn't picky, he seems to like this a lot, he hasn't tried to chew it or yank it out yet.
