Fi*** My prior experience with home carpet cleaners were the canister style, supplemented with a older floor polisher, using carpet brushes. This system works better, gets filthy carpets squeaky clean, and is obviously half as much work. It does use a lot of soap. While cleaning living room, I ran out of soap and wasn't able to see exactly when. But I could see this after the carpet dried (4-5 hr) as there was a clean stripe of carpet next to dirty carpeting where I ran out of soap. The biggest problem was not covered by instructions. I don't know....it may apply to all upright cleaners. When you stop cleaning for any reason, e.g. move something or just because you need a quick break, you MUST rest the cleaner on something able to absorb the dirty water already removed from your carpet, or this water will drain back down through the removal mechanism, giving your carpet a terrible stain. Of course, going back will easily remove this water, but if you always take momentary stops after putting the machine on an absorbent towel or waterproof (rubber backing) area rug, you will save double re-cleaning in the long run. If it weren't for this "defect," which may not be a defect at all, but a design deficiency, this machine would get a 5-star rating from me. It really cleans up a dirty carpet, and I was surprised by the ease of pushing/pulling it around. Cleaning the unit after use was actually easier than you might anticipate, after reading instructions. If there were two power switches, one for vacuum, another for the scrub brushes and pumps, you could take momentary rests without staining your cleaned carpet with dirty water. (I'm handicapped and must take short rests when doing this type work.) You could also plan a cleaning pattern that provides for uncleaned carpet for momentary stops. B000F6UR6Q US

After I figured that out and trained myself not to do it anymore, I haven't had any trouble. The design of the squeegee certainly needs improvement, but it's tolerable. So happy we purchased this! Main gotcha is the 2 rollers on the bottom of the vacuum that glide across the floor wear thin after about 2 years and the bottom of the unit is basically dragging across the floor then. Sort of still functional but is grinding away slowly the bottom plastic of the unit. Can't buy the rollers. I tried to buy the rollers which are about 50 cent part, but can't buy them from hoover or anywhere. Tried to buy the bottom plate part that includes one of the rollers (it seems) but when the plate arrived from hoover, no rollers. Hoover was gracious enough to send me a whole new bottom main unit to replace 2 ea 50 cent parts, I guess because I was just within the 2 year warranty window by a few days. They said it was a courtesy. OK fine. I'm happy, I suppose until the rollers wear out again, then vacuum it must go in the trash I presume. Doubt Hoover will send me another $40 lower unit for free. Bought the Lg based on all 5 star reviews. It has its drawbacks. First off the carpet beater attachment will destroy a fine rug. It wants to suck up the rug no mater what height setting its on. If your rugs have fringe it will chew them up. But I want new rugs anyway. #2 the bare floor attachment needs an adapter to fit on the end of the wand. Whats with that? they couldn't design it to fit from the get go? also this floor piece is surrounded by bristles and the dirt and hair have no way of getting in so you end up having to grab fist fulls of hair and dust from the bristles every few minutes. I purchased an after market floor attachment that has a lever you step on to retract the bristles for bare floors. I had to do the same for the old Kenmore but its much better than the stock piece. No pet hair attachment. It claims to come with one but its the small upholstery brush, no motor with a beater bar,it dosnt touch the cat hair. At least the Kenmore had a good pet attachment. #3 you have to open a door to get to the tools. what a waste of time. They should be handy and readily available. I'd tear the door off but my wife would get upset. I'll have to wait a while and make it look like an accident. The bare floor attachment has a place to hang off the side of the unit for storage but it catches on corners and knocks over furniture so it usually ends up where you last used it, in an other room. Not real convinced about the bag less thing either but that's me.There's a lot to be said for removing the bag and tossing it in the bin. you spend a lot of time cleaning filters and dust bins on this thing. The On off Hi Low switch is on the pistol grip at the end of the hose and its a soft touch electronic and I'm always shutting it off or switching to low by accident. Why do you need low suction anyway? When you don't want to clean that well? On the positive side it has excellent suction (but the same as Kenmore, meile and dyson) Its very quiet and I dont miss trying to pry the cat off the ceiling. All in all its just ok. there is still no perfect vac out there. but the meile was far from perfect too and at 3 times the price.So i wont feel as bad when I take this sucker out to the garage a put some Mods on it to make it too my liking. Dyson Articulating Hard Floor Tool 2 Can NOT vacuum over rugs at all Ama*** So this tool is great on our hardwoods, BUT any time you get to a rug, small or large, you HAVE to switch to a different vacuum head. The bristles are not removable and it literally cannot glide over rugs. Since our house is mostly hardwoods I was hoping I could use this on our area rugs too since the multi-floor tool the vacuum came with always tangles and Dyson’s tangle-free turbine is tiny.
