If the product designed to CONTROL THE HEAT cannot handle being near the heat lamp without melting its own cord, we have a pretty serious design problem. I’ve tried things like turning on the light in the oven and putting dough in there; but that’s not a controlled environment and temperature. So, I took a leap and got this warmer hoping it would work for me — and it does! Once you read the instructions and the chart on the box, it’s easy and reliable to use. You first pick the temperature you’d like your dough to maintain. Then, following the chart, you dial in the warmer temperature — the key here is to understand that the target temperature is not the same as the warmer temperature — the warmer adjusts to keep the dough at the right temperature. I check my dough temperature a few times to ensure that it remains in the right zone. And, it does. Once you hit the set point, the warmer is very reliable. When it’s time to use the dough, I take it out of the frig, get it to room temperature, and then use the warmer to bring it to optimum temperature before I shape and use it. One thing I really like about this model is that it has a larger base/heating element; many of these warmers are made for jar size holders; I make larger quantities of dough and this base fits some of my larger mixing bowls. I have found that the auto shut off is a required option for a heating pad after having a couple of others that auto shut off. I'm pleased with the quality and the heat level. On another heating pad I have I seldom go above medium heat because it it too high, yet medium isn't quite as warm as I would llike. This heating pad suits my needs perfectly.
