They are the only smart plugs I could find that are UL/ETL listed with energy monitoring and 100% local control that does not require a cloud service. Athom has some nice ESPHome plugs but they are not UL or ETL certified. A couple things that might be worth knowing up front though: Caveat 1 The first couple of these I configured by connecting to the devices AP and using its built in web server to configure the device. When doing this there where two "slots" where you could configure your wifi information. For some reason the first one did not work for me but the second one did. Since quite a lot of IoT devices only work on 2GHz wifi networks I keep a seperate 2GHz network for my IoT devices just to avoid the headaches that come with trying to connect them to my primary 5GHz network. Im guessing it might have had something to do with this though I did not ever confirm. Just keep this in mind if your having issues connecting to your wifi. Try the second "slot" if the first does not work. Later I realized I could skip this step all together. Home Assistant discovers the devices after you plug them in and offers to configure them for you. No need to do any manual configuration outside of Home Assistant. Caveat 2 The default behavior is to be powered down. So if you have a power outage the plugs will all be powered off when the power comes back up. This could be a huge problem for something like a refrigerator or sump pump. Luckily this is configurable in the firmware. You just have to make sure to set it. Caveat 3 Even after letting Home Assistant configure and secure the plugs it does not turn on digest authentication for the plugs. Anyone on your LAN could control them. This may or may not be what you want. You cant enable digest authentication in the firmware but it wont be on by default. Caveat 4 If you use these as BLE proxies they are passive only. You cannot have active connections. I still keep a couple of the aforementioned Athom plugs for this very purpose but I just do not plug anything non-trivial into them. While not exactly a Caveat I had my refrigerator condenser die on me this weekend and at one point it drew over 1900W and tripped one of the outlets which turned itself off. It's worth noting that this is not a PPS-suported charger, so it will not charge some phones and tablets at full speed (especially newer Android devices), but it didn't advertise to support this protocol, so that's not a problem. Also, I was able to do a rough efficiency test. With the 67 watt load, a smart plug that I had measured about 71 watts, meaning the device is about 95% efficient, which is good (it also doesn't heat up much even at this full load). Built almost entirely in metallic gold and green, it does an excellent job recreating the classic look of a traditional banker’s lamp. The build itself is simple and took me about an hour to complete. There are some Technic elements incorporated into the structure, which make the finished lamp surprisingly sturdy and durable. Once completed, this is one of those building-block sets that doesn’t immediately look like one from across the room. You could easily place it on a desk or bookshelf and someone might not realize it was made from bricks until they looked closely. The included LED lighting is a great touch, especially because Pantasy incorporated a functional pull chain. Pulling the chain turns the lamp on and off just like a real banker’s lamp, and the mechanism works flawlessly. Just don’t expect it to replace an actual desk lamp—the LED isn’t bright enough for working or reading. I’ve been using mine as a night light, and for that purpose it works very well. My one complaint is with Pantasy’s lighting control system. The main power has to be activated manually using a button on the control box at the rear of the model, and its default state when power is supplied is OFF. That means you can’t simply connect it to a smart plug or remote-controlled outlet and have the lamp automatically turn on. This isn’t unique to this set, and I’d really like to see Pantasy change this on future lighting systems, especially for collectors displaying multiple illuminated sets. There are no minifigures or printed pieces included, but honestly, neither is really needed here. The model itself is the attraction. At around $50, I think this is a very nice display piece and a great addition to Pantasy’s growing retro collection. They do work great and produce a lot of light. The steps are individually addressable so you can set each step to a different color. Plenty of presets in the app as well. Cable management is a bit of a mess. Depending on how your stairs are built you may be able to tuck the lines into cracks or hide behind trim pieces (add trim after or temporarily remove what you got). If not it's not the cleanest look. Cables are white so if you don't have white walls it's a lot going on, especially since this one comes with motion sensor triggers that need to be placed at the top and bottom to turn the lights on and off as you make your accent/descent. You do not have to do rainbow. You can get a nice classy or even futuristic look using white mode. My full recommendation would be to plan for this in a new stair build or renovation project and not as quick add on to existing stairs. You really need a recessed lip, perfect power access, and hidden wire traces to get these installed properly. Nothing about how it is presented or feels suggest the price tag. Not premium...
