Once you do it once, replacement is fast and easy. Remove the ice box; remove four white phillips head screws that hold the white plastic frame behind the ice box and over the ice maker and pull out the white plastic frame; remove the two 7mm screws that hold the bottom of the ice tray to the door, disconnect the two plastic wire harnesses, and lift the ice maker out. It replaces the water filter in my Maytag refrigerator in my case. The purpose of these water filters is primarily to remove taste and odor such as from chlorine in city water. It feeds both the ice maker and the water dispenser. Eventually the filter becomes "used up" and you may notice the smell of chlorine in your water from the dispenser. See your refrigerator users manual to confirm the filter type it takes and the specific replacement procedure. I will outline how I replace the water filter in my own refrigerator: (1) Take filters out of box DO NOT REMOVE the plastic wrap over the individual filters until you are ready to install the filter. Only remove the wrap on the one you are installing. (2) In the picture you can see the location of the filter assembly and the indicator light that lights up when it's time to change the filter. (3) Note the clip that holds the clamshell cover closed. Just squeeze the clip and slightly rock the lower filter cover down. (4) Once filter cover is open, rotate filter cartridge counter-clockwise (like loosening a screw) by about 1/4 turn. Then simply remove the old filter. Note - It is full of water. Some water spillage is inevitable. Keep the old filter cartridge upright (open end up) and take to sink to drain cartridge and then discard. Wipe up any water spillage from the old filter removal. (5) Push in with moderate pressure and rotate about 1/4 turn clockwise (like tightening a screw). Look carefully and make sure there are no leaks. Then re-close the filter cover so that the cover clip engages. (6) Press the "Reset Filter" button until the "replace filter" light goes out. There is a slight delay. (7) Get out a pitcher or jug and run about 2 gallons of water from the dispenser to remove any "fines" (fine loose particles of charcoal). The "fines" are not hazardous but they are unattractive giving the water a slight haze. Done - Draw a cup of water, smell and drink. There should be no odor or taste. Review: This replaces the water filter on my particular Maytag refrigerator with no problems. The price is very reasonable for 3 filters. I had no leaks and the water tasted good with no odor. The water dispenser is concealed behind a door, while the ice is stored in the freezer and requires a scoop. That's manageable for adults, but considerably less appealing when kids, water, loose ice cubes, and greasy fingerprints all enter the equation. We wanted a standalone solution that was easy for the kids to use, easy to keep clean, looked good on the counter and was less likely to create a mess. This has fit that role remarkably well, although I think it's important to understand that the water dispenser is much better than the ice maker. For such a compact machine, the 3.3-liter reservoir holds a surprising amount of water, and gives a hefty weight that means this thing isn't going to slide around accidentally. We generally refill it about once a day, and the water stays cold and continues to taste fresh throughout the day. Dispensing is quick enough that filling a cup doesn't become tedious, but controlled enough that the kids aren't constantly overshooting the cup. It doesn't automatically stop, though, so you do need to be ready to press the control button to turn it off before the cup is completely full. The ice maker starts producing ice within minutes, which is impressive, but its capacity is limited. It also isn't particularly good at maintaining a large reserve of ice for long periods. For our family, that's actually fine. One of my kids doesn't like ice in his water and the other does, so it essentially produces a never-ending personal supply for the one ice enthusiast. For a couple of reasonable ice users, it's probably plenty. For a party or a large family expecting a countertop machine to constantly provide buckets of ice, I think you'll be disappointed. The ice dispenser itself works fairly well, with one amusing quirk: after you stop dispensing, another cube or two may still be committed to the journey. Wait a second before pulling your cup away or you'll occasionally donate some ice to the drip tray. It's also noticeably noisy while making ice. I have never been a big fan of an air filter in a refrigerator, but after my wife cooked some strong garlic meals, I realized that a fresh air filter really does make a difference. Both of these filters fit my refrigerator perfectly and appear to be operating at or near OEM efficiency. If I discover issues with materials or workmanship, I will certainly update this review. I replace mine about once a month so cost is an issue. I only use this for the ice maker. I have an RO filter for drinking water. These are charcoal filters. I was curious so I sawed an old one open to see. I have well water with a heavy iron content. I have two whole house filters before water reaches the refrigerator. This has made the ice taste neutral and it has no yellow or orange discoloration. They’re easy to install and I haven’t had any problems with leaking. They are just fun to look at. The dice are of a good quality and appear to roll well without getting the same number every time. The dice makers did a great job at choosing a good color for the numbers. I can easily read every number on each dice so the colors coordinated with the dice itself. So a darker dice will have lighter numbers and lighter dice will have darker numbers. The case fits all the nice perfectly. Although when I say perfectly, that means you have to put the dice in just the right order to make them fit. The first time I took the dice out and put them away, I filled the container to the top and still had a dice in my hand. Just be aware of the basic order of larger dice at the bottom, with triangular shaped ones kind of interlocking with each other to make them fit. Overall, I am very happy with this set. It doesn’t take up much space, is able to be hand-cranked, and comes with bowls for the ice treats. When I used it for the first time, I added ice cubes from my fridge and the hand crank kept getting stuck on pieces of ice and larger chunks ended up coming out rather than just small little shavings. That part was a bit of a bummer, because the bigger chunks were hard to eat. I’m not sure if we used a larger block of ice, if that would help the ice shaver not get caught up on individual cubes? 4396418 Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly Kit for Whirlpool, Replaces 4344173 5 My 2007 Amana Is Making Ice Again Rav*** After years of fighting for ice, we finally won! This ice maker has been a miracle for us. We have a 2007 Amana refrigerator with an ice maker that has been struggling for years, but figuring out exactly what replacement I needed took some digging. Our refrigerator is an Amana BRF20V1CPSR, but the ice maker that had been installed previously was a Whirlpool unit, which made things confusing at first. I eventually figured out that the important clue was on the Amana refrigerator sticker itself, which says to “use ice maker accessory kit IC6.” I also found that the replacement ice maker assembly associated with our setup is part D7824706Q, which replaced the older D7824705. When I saw IC-6 listed with this kit, I decided to give it a shot even though my exact refrigerator and ice maker model numbers were not listed. I am so glad I did. The kit came with far more than I actually needed, including different wiring, the metal shutoff arm, and other replacement pieces. I only needed the ice maker itself and the correct wiring harness, but it is nice knowing I already have the extra parts if I ever need them later. Installation was surprisingly easy, except for the part where I had to get on the floor and twist my neck around to look under the ice maker and find the screws. I could have made this much easier on myself by taking out the freezer drawers full of food, but why do that? I instead decided to struggle around all of it. Once I unplugged the wiring harness and removed the screws holding the old ice maker to the freezer wall, the rest was easy. I basically slapped the new one into place. The holes lined up perfectly, so I screwed it down and connected it using the compatible wire included in the kit. I did not have to make any adjustments to the water flow or do anything complicated. It did take a little patience before it really got going. The instructions say to allow about 24 hours, but mine took closer to 48 to 72 hours before it started producing ice consistently. I had warmed up the freezer a bit while messing around with the installation, and honestly, I think the slower start had more to do with my nearly 20-year-old fridge/freezer than with this ice maker kit. The freezer has been struggling a bit with temperature too. But now, a week later, it is cooking! We finally have a steady supply of ice again after years of fighting with the old one, and the fit is perfect. For the price, especially considering how complete the kit is, this was absolutely worth it. If you have an older Amana or Whirlpool setup and are trying to figure out compatibility, check your refrigerator label for the IC6 designation. That ended up being the key for me.
