This is totally inaccurate but I understand why they said this. It's deceiving. They don't appear to fit at first glance. I couldn't snap them together while holding them in the air since they have to be perfectly aligned. I almost gave up. The secret is to lay them on a solid flat surface and push down hard. They are a very tight fit! This ensures that they stay together securely. One side of each sheet is flatter than the other side. Make sure they are all pointing in the same direction. Push male tab into female sockets, not female to male. And don't worry about breaking the tabs. The moment it feels like it will break is when they typically slide together. T*** This is a fairly nice hang on back aquarium filter. All of the components are well made and durable enough for my needs. The filter is really easy to set up and use. Everything lined up like it should, without any issues. I really like that the intake tube is extendable for different tank sizes and water levels. A surface skimmer is included on the tube that works well. The adjustable tube makes it easy to match it to the water surface. I also like that there is a flow control on the filter to adjust how much water is running through the filter. The filter runs relatively quietly, and I only really notice the noise of the returning water. I installed the filter on a 20 gallon tank, and it works fairly well. However, I did make some changes so it worked better for my needs. The intake sponge is very small. I prefer a sponge with more surface area to prevent clogging and to provide better pre-filtering. I always have sponge media on hand, so I swapped it out with a larger sponge. I also don't really like the included cartridges. They work ok, but they are fairly thin, and the initial filter material is too fine for my liking. However, the filter box has plenty of space to use other media I have. Overall, I am happy with it. I decided on a UV filter, looking at inline, and drop in options I always ended up around $80. Get an Aqua Clear and drop in a cheaper UV in the basket also $80 or more for a bigger AC. And then Amazon suggested a GRECH CBG-1200 HOB that was similar to the AC, but with a built in UV. It also has an adjustable, all the way to off, skimmer, adjustable flow control, provided reusable media, adjustable length intake, no prefilter 😒 ( I added one), and flow indicator. I have been looking for this combination for 2 years! The best of AC, Tidal, with a in-line UV, and skimmer control for fry. Snagged the one. It came in a few days. Right out of the box, the inlet hose connection allows air to get in. This causes constant bubbling and the filter loses suction, which completely defeats the purpose of running a canister filter in the first place. We spent over 3 hours trying to figure this out. We followed the instructions carefully, reassembled everything multiple times, checked all seals, read through reviews, and even went through Amazon troubleshooting steps. No matter what we did, the issue kept happening. It would start up fine for a short time, then suddenly stop pulling water properly and fill with air again. At first, we thought it was user error—but after going through everything step by step, it became clear this is a design issue with the inlet connection itself. The only way we were able to get it working properly was by 3d printing an inlet tube. After doing that, it finally ran consistently—but you should NOT have to modify or repair a brand-new product just to make it function correctly. For something as important as filtration, reliability matters. This just wasn’t dependable out of the box, and that’s a dealbreaker. Save yourself the frustration and go with a proven brand like Fluval instead—they actually work right away without hours of troubleshooting.
