I realize there are other plug types that might be higher quality and more durable, but this is exactly what I was looking for, and for a reasonable price. The outer housing is hard plastic, not rubbery, and I am uncertain how easily it might crack or break if dropped onto a concrete shop floor; so this isn't the type of plug that you can toss around near hard surfaces. The plug is designed to be a replacement plug for an extension cord, and is designed to accept cord widths up to 12AWG/3C gauge wire. Thick wire gauges, although they will fit, the clamps that hold the cord tightly in place will not screw down entirely, but the plug was intentionally made that way, and it will work fine. Somewhat smaller gauges will allow the clamp to close more completely, while holding the wire just as tight. But if the gauge is too small, then the clamps won't have much to bite into and the wire will not be clamped as solidly. So, the plug seems better suited to shop appliance type extension cords rather than thinner floor lamp extension cords. The plug is more cleverly designed than other similar replacement plugs I have used in the past. With this plug, the clamp has a 'dovetail cut' on each side, in addition to the two clamp screws, that keeps the clamp very solidly in place on the rest of the plug housing and takes some stress off of the clamp screws. The inner electrical housing appears to be an extra durable white plastic resin that I associate with use with electrical devices because it does not conduct electricity or heat. And the embedded two metal prongs and metal ground pin of the plug are super strong steel and very resistant to bending; so you could probably accidentally step on these prongs with your work boot and not see them bend. When inserting the electrical wires into their respective terminal holes, the wire only has to be stripped back 12mm because it goes into the hole straight and does not need to bend. The wires are held in place with set screws, and while these screws are not as secure as having the wire looped around tightened screws, this is plenty adequate because there are three set screws holding three wires, plus the two clamp screws holding the cord. With this design, you do not want or need a longer area of the wire to be exposed, just 12mm at the very end, and no more. There are detailed instructions in both English and French for how to properly attach this plug to an extension cord. Oddly, the instructions include a warning that " this product can expose you to chemicals including phthalate compounds... which are known to cause cancer..."
