Many reviews say these are knockoffs and say BRK brands. BRK is First Alert! Why don’t people research before ordering and leaving bad reviews. Yes the box does not say First Alert and seems generic but the detectors do. See picture. The mounts are exactly matching the old ones I took down so each one took all of 2 minutes to install and loosening a couple screws. I did not have to replace the screws or anything. Loosen the screws, slide the old mount off, replace with the new mount, and tighten the old screws. I thought this would be an hours long project patching holes and drilling new ones but it was a few min project. For the price even if the batteries last 5 years it paid for itself in the battery cost savings. Hopefully I get the full 10 years out of them. A few days ago I pulled the trigger on a Searzall while I was sous-viding a brisket (total bath time 60 hours at 155 degrees for 24 hours. (Do your research before you start the process). I was partially reluctant to purchase the Searzall after I read some of the low-scoring reviews, but I realized that the people leaving one star reviews probably hadn’t used it correctly, so I pulled the trigger, and I would definitely do so again. Follow the instructions and you will have a five star experience! Be very careful of the gas that you use, IE follow the instructions. Don’t use MAPP gas; use propane in the short, squat containers. I used Coleman propane that I bought from Wally World. The instructions tell you not to use the tall blue or yellow cylinders, so don’t. Using the wrong type of gas will damage the replaceable screens on the Searzall, and I would wager that most of the one star reviews are because people didn’t use the right gas. Use the correct torch attachment. The instructions tell you to use the Benzomatic ts8000, so buy that along with your Searzall. Realize that it won’t save you any time. I was able to save everything and eliminate the smell, but decided to give the skimmer another shot assuming it was my fault... another two months go by and the skimmer was working great; however I noticed prior to heading to bed one night the overflow was quickly filling again, I pulled out the Skimmer from my tank and noticed that the release valve was slowly creeping open. I have since invested in an overhanging higher quality brand with no issues. If you do set up this skimmer, just be cautious and check up on it both prior and post cleaning extra thoroughly. The intent of the remote appears to be to allow you to isolate the detector that actually started the alarm. If you have multiple detectors, scattered over several floor, finding the one that started the alarm could be challenging. Pressing the button on the remote will silence all but the original alarming unit so you can track it down. Apparently two presses will silence all the alarms (handy, I suppose, if the alarm was triggered by something frying on the stove). The unit is small, really just one button. I ate the entire bag standing at the counter before my wife could see them and ask questions about portion sizes. The machine and I had reached an understanding. **Week Two.** Chicken wings. Buffalo. I found a recipe that involved approximately one tablespoon of oil and called it health food. My wife inspected the wings with the focused energy of a woman who suspects something but cannot prove it. She ate four. Said nothing. I said nothing. The machine is gone. It smells like lavender and regret. The basket and tray survived and are in my dishwasher right now, clean and innocent, waiting for a machine worthy of them.
