It makes for a fantastic party trick that adds a great visual flair and rich flavor to a drink without breaking the bank. However, there are a few practical quirks you should definitely know before using it. First, the physical sizing is a bit restrictive. The "UFO" design only fits glasses with relatively small openings. When I tried to use it with my standard whiskey glass, the opening was simply too wide for the smoker to cover, leaving an air gap that was easily visible to the naked eye. Second, even when you match it with a smaller, properly sized cup, smoke still inevitably escapes from both the machine itself and the rim of the glass. The volume of smoke it pumps out is thick enough that it could easily trigger a sensitive indoor smoke detector. I quickly realized it wasn't a good idea to use it sitting at the bar or coffee table, so I had to move the whole setup into the kitchen and run it directly under the range hood vent to safely finish testing. Lastly, while I really appreciate how generous they were with the wood chips, the packaging creates a bit of a hazard. The small metal tins containing the chips are sealed incredibly tight. While that's great for keeping the wood fresh and locking in the aromatic flavors, trying to pry open a tightly wedged tin full of feather-light wood shavings almost guarantees you’ll make a mess on your first attempt. Overall, it's a wonderfully convenient and high-value starter kit for anyone wanting to experiment with smoked cocktails, provided you use narrower glassware, open the tins over a trash can, and operate it near a kitchen exhaust fan. FIRST ALERT Hardwired Wireless Smoke Alarm with Photoelectric Sensor and Battery Backup, SA521CN-3ST , White 1 False alarms!! Ig*** I purchased 2 of these units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Install was easy, linking the units was also easy. On paper this is a wonderful solution to link detectors in existing homes without the expense of having to rewire. I did experience a problem. The upstairs unit is wired to the same circuit as a ceiling fan which is remote control operated and has dimmable lights (built into the fan, not via light switch). The circuit path is that the smoke detector is first and then the fan and the detector is physically far away from the fan (6 feet at least from tip of blades). When the fan is on or/and when the fan light is on the smoke detector alarm trips/sounds. After hitting the silent button and turning off the fan and/or light the alarm is cleared from the detector and it reverts to regular mode. The detector does not immediately trip, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 4 hours (as observed so far). I have switched the 2 detectors (upstairs detector now downstairs and downstairs detector now upstairs) and will see if the problem persists. Other info: manufacture date of detector is July of 2014 (purchased September of 2014) so bad battery is probably not the cause as I used the batteries included in the package. If not for the false alarms I would give this product 5 stars. If problem persists after switch I will update my review to 2 stars as it would essentially render my fan and lights unusable. UPDATE: I removed the 1st detector mentioned above but still have a 2nd one downstairs. Also I have a 3way light switch with dimmer but this is not on the same circuit or located anywhere near this detector, I have no idea if this is related or not. This detector has consistently giving false alarms once or twice every week at random times. I had to remove it and replaced it with a BRK 3120B which solved the problem. While the instructions say if you are doing interconnected (which we did) to do them all at once then test, that was not really practical for 8 units with stairs and a big ladder required to remove the battery protector and fix any issues if required, so we tested them room by room (while the old detectors were still wired in) and didn't have any issues. Every single one connected to the previously installed First Alert monitor during tests (so each subsequent test triggered every First Alert monitor, as expected). We've only had them fully installed for about 5 hours but no false alarms yet, so fingers crossed. We didn't pay extra for the 10-year back-up battery life for these two (relatively easy to reach in our house) but we did for the other 6 standard smoke detectors and we're pretty excited about that! Derek *** Really a typical smoke detector install. Bought these to replace the original detectors here when we bought the place - probably 20+ years old, and no battery back-up. Only issues were as a result of improper wiring install of the original detectors, necessitating a trip to the hardware store for a proper electrical box (NOT a fan of wires just hanging around!). Only other issue was the age of the batteries that were included with these detectors. Couldn't figure out why both units were chirping. Checked the batteries and they had expired at 12/2018 and 9/2019 respectively - a clear indication of how long ago these were built/packaged. No worries, replaced them with fresh - BUT one of them kept chirping even after new batts. Huh? First Alert's help site was useful here - disconnect power, remove batteries and press and hold the test button for 30 seconds to reset the detectors "brains". Worked just fine. So, the hope is I never, EVER need these to actually work - but going with the adage, "change batteries at the semi-annual time change interval" - we went one better and changed out the whole units.
