Anna *** PRO: This little espresso maker is perfect if you want something stronger than just drip or even stove top espresso. If you don't have a specific espresso grinder, it can be a little difficult to get consistent shots each pull. I've even been able to pull some really nice decaf shots as well. CON: The basket in the portafilter doesn't have ANY suction to the portafilter. Thus, when I go to empty the used espresso grounds, I have to hold the hot basket while I scrap out the grounds. Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine, Classic Milk Frother, 4 Coffee Varieties, Intuitive Touch Display, 100% Ceramic Grinder, AquaClean Filter, Aroma Seal, Black (EP3221/44) 5 In depth: Americano function on Philips 3200, and our solution to 2 kinds of beans (regular/decaf) S&*** This is our 3rd super-auto machine we've owned, and we are now 1 month into it. We landed on this machine because 90% of the drinks we make are Americanos and the other 10% are espresso drinks with steamed milk. We rarely, if ever, use the coffee and coffee lungo features. Americano = espresso shot + hot water. Prior to our purchase, I had a difficult time finding info from other reviews on how this machine produces americanos. I was concerned that it just poured extra hot water through the used grounds (it doesn't!). So here's a quick walkthrough of the Philips 3200 Americano process (note this is not a function of the LatteGo model) and a few other features. With press of Americano x1: - Grinds beans. - Pours Shot - Ejects used grounds. - Pours clean hot water through the brew unit- water comes out where the shot is poured. With press of Americano x2: - Grind first shot - Pours first shot - Ejects used grounds. - Grinds second shot. - Pours second shot. - Ejects used grounds. - Pours 2x portion of hot water through brew unit. Customization of Americano: You have 3 settings each to alter the amount of grounds, volume of liquid, and temperature of the water. You can not (to my knowledge) specifically dial-in the amount of water, but need to choose one of the pre-set volumes of water. I was concerned about this prior to purchase, but have found that the options are suited fine to our liking. In the event that I want to add a little less water, I can easily hit the 'STOP' button when the amount of desired water is reached. Tips on dialing in this machine's best Americano: - Set the grind setting to its finest grind. I found the best tasting shots started to pour after a few days of use. I gradually dialed down the grind finer and finer through some test shots and now I'm happy with the quality. Is it as good as your local presumptuous barista? No, but it's pretty dang close, AND it's simple if that's what you're looking for- no dealing with tamping, cleanup, etc. - Set the temperature volume to max. - Ideal water level, in my opinion, is right between the 1st and 2nd setting for both single and double americano. I either hit the 2nd setting and stop early, or the 1st setting and add a bit of cream. What about DECAF or other ground coffee? This was the elusive option for us. We like coffee; we also like decaf coffee (lavazza dek is our go-to everyday espresso option, or sometimes we splurge for local roasted SWP... but that's another topic). We wanted a machine that we could use easily for both decaf and regular beans. Currently, as I write this in 2021, a dual-hopper and dual-grinder model doesn't exist in anything remotely close to our budget, so what were we to do? I may have gone a little bit overboard, but we also purchased a dedicated espresso grinder for the sole purpose of decaf espresso drinks. (Baratza Sette 30 if you must know). We keep regular beans in the Philips 3200, and decaf beans right next to it in the Baratza grinder. If you want to make an americano, or other drink, using pre-ground beans, you use the Philips 3200 bypass doser. For us, we grind the pre-selected amount of beans in the Baratza, and pour into the bypass doser. Prior to, or after this, you need to 1) select your drink (americano/otherwise), 2) hold down the Bean button for ~3seconds. the light will switch showing that the pre-ground setting is on, 3) choose your water volume and water temp, 4) then hit start. Note: when using the bypass doser, the machine can only pour 1x shot/drink at a time using pre-ground; you cannot do a 2x/double drink automatically, but need to repeat these steps. A minor drawback to hold the bean button for 3 seconds each time, but not a deal-breaker. I'm usually drinking decaf in the afternoons/evening (not a sleepy mess), so I don't mind the extra few seconds of process. Other things I really like about this machine compared to others in the past: - large and sealed bean hopper - widely adjustable height of pour spout to fit different size mugs - large capacity water reservoir - large capacity drip tray/used grinds that has to be dumped less frequently- even better than our past Saeco or the Gaggia Accademia - easy access to above features- pull out the front (not the top, or behind a swing door) - super intuitive menu- our young kids can even make coffee for us with simple instruction Things I wish were different: - I wish the grind setting could go 1 finer. I like strong shots, and this goes about 95% of the way to where I wish it went. - I wish the frothing wand could be swapped for the non-panarello model. Very minor, but I prefer a manual style frother to a panarello style when I make milk drinks - I wish this had a flow-speed setting for the shots like our old Saeco Exprelia. A few models of superauto machines out there allow you to adjust the speed by which the shot pours (via controlling the size of the exit spout- not by altering the grind size/pressure...again, too much to geek-out on for the purpose of this post, but it basically allows you to impact the shot crema). I wish this had that setting, but it doesn't. Minor drawback in my opinion. - I wish you could exactly customize- beyond the 3 pre-sets- the amount of hot water in americano's. Again, very minor drawback. All in all, a great machine. It began to perform its best after a few days for us, after I had tested and poured through about 30+ shots dialing it in. In my opinion, this is normal and something that should be expected with your machine. If you are willing to learn how to adjust settings and test so it's to your liking, you'll be happier with the end result. Unless you are very un-picky, you shouldn't expect to get a result you're happy with on Day 1. So be patient, and give yourself some time to play with your new toy and dial it in. Happy brewing. Context on past machines we have owned 1st Saeco Starbucks Barista (manual/semi auto) 2nd Saeco Magic Comfort Plus 3rd Saeco Exprelia (HD8856) Also use a family member's Gaggia Accademia quite frequently B092VVJPCC US

Normcore 58mm Precision High Extraction Filter Basket, 18g Portafilter Filter Basket For 58mm Espresso machines, 0.8mm Thickn 3 Still trying to dial it in NinjA*** So far I'm having a lot of trouble dialing this basket in. It flows MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than my other baskets. Even at my (very high end espresso grinder's) LOWEST setting I'm getting 18g in to 36-40g out in about 20seconds. And that is with or without the paper filter on the bottom. I know that will speed up flow, but it doesnt seem to matter. That is way too fast. Solis Scala Compact Conical-Burr Coffee Grinder (Scala (OLD)) 5 a perfect espresso grinder Le*** I have to start with the caveat that I only drink espresso and this review is mostly based on the espresso capabilities of the Solis Scala. I have an older Saeco espresso machine which I love and I have been using ground Lavazza Espresso (comes in black cans) with this machine for many years. I finally decided to start grinding my own beans (the Lavazza espresso beans are about half the price of the ground coffee). I spent a lot of time reading reviews for coffee grinders, watching videos, considering a range of price options (from $15 to $200) and decided that the ones in the $100 range were the right fit for me. Most of the cheaper ones are not supposed to work well for espresso. I narrowed down my choices to the Solis Scala and the Capresso Infinity Plus, both Swiss brands. I chose the Solis Scala after comparing the espresso machines sold by both companies. The Capresso espresso machines are just lower end, cheaper machines. I figured that since Solis sells fancy espresso machines, then their grinder should be up to par. I bought this grinder directly from Seattle Coffee Gear who appear to be its exclusive distributor in the US (and have lots of useful coffee grinder videos). I am SO happy I got this grinder. First of all, even though the description is for the Solis Scala (14 settings), the photos and the grinder you receive are actually the Solis Scala Plus (22 settings). You can find the full description on the Solis website. Second, the range of settings is amazing. When I tested the grinder on the lowest setting (Fine=1), the coffee was finer than the Lavazza espresso and looked closer to Turkish coffee. The manual says that there are two extra settings beyond Fine for even finer coffee (so there are actually 22+2 settings) but only certain coffees can be ground there. It might be a good fit for Turkish coffee but I haven't tried. Coffee ground on setting 5 is closer to the consistency of the ground Lavazza Espresso that comes in cans. Third, the on/off button combined with the timer is super convenient. You can grind approximately 2-3 shots at a time before the canister below fills up. I haven't experienced much static yet but even if I do in the future, there is plenty of advice online on how to circumvent it. Attaching photos of a shot of espresso by itself and on top of milk with Switchback Roasters coffee ground on 1. The espresso shot with coffee ground on 1 is much creamier than the one on 5. If you drink espresso, you won’t regret buying this machine. B0C1NHY65L US

The build quality feels really premium in the hand, and the motor handles lighter roast espresso beans without bogging down or stalling. It's surprisingly quiet compared to my older plug-in grinder, and dialing in the grind size is straightforward thanks to the micro-adjustments. Battery life has been excellent so far, easily getting me through a week of multiple daily uses without needing a charge. AMZCHEF Conical Burr Coffee Grinder, Espresso Grinder with 45 Grind Settings, Anti-Static Electric Coffee Bean Mill with Touc 4 Solid Grinder with One Frustrating Flaw tk2f*** This iamzchef CG215B coffee grinder does most things very well. It offers plenty of grind settings for both espresso and drip, runs at a reasonable noise level (exactly what you’d expect from a burr grinder), and performs consistently. The real standout feature is the stainless steel output spout and container. Unlike the cheap plastic ones on most grinders, this setup virtually eliminates static cling. No more messy coffee grounds flying everywhere — the grinds stay put and pour cleanly. This alone makes it noticeably better than many competitors in its price range. However, there’s one major annoyance that keeps it from being a 5-star grinder: the timer does not save your last setting. Every time the display goes to sleep (after about 150 seconds), it resets back to the default 14 seconds. If you like to grind for 20 seconds like I do, you have to press the + button 11 times every single use. Yes, you can hold the button to make it scroll faster, but it’s still an unnecessary hassle you have to repeat every time you grind coffee. This feels like a major oversight by the manufacturer. A machine with adjustable timing should remember your preferred setting — it’s such a basic feature. I asked Amazon Alexa if it had a memory feature and Alexa said yes it did - NOT true. Despite this frustration, I still like the grinder for the money and the stainless steel collection container, and solid grinding performance. Recommended with caution — great hardware, disappointing software/memory logic. B0C1NHY65L US

Eureka Mignon Silenzio Espresso Grinder | Silent Technology | Stepless | Timed Dosing | (White, 55mm) 5 Quiet Enough That I Don’t Feel Like I’m Starting a Construction Site at 6 AM Li*** I’ve been using the Eureka Mignon Silenzio with my Lelit Bianca, and so far it’s been a really solid grinder for home espresso. One of the biggest things I noticed immediately is how quiet it is compared to other grinders I’ve used or heard. It’s still a grinder obviously, but it doesn’t sound like a construction site in the kitchen first thing in the morning. I also really like how easy it is to fine tune the grind size. Once dialed in, I’ve been getting pretty consistent shots and dosing each time I make coffee, which has made the whole espresso process way less frustrating. It pairs really nicely with my Lelit Bianca and definitely feels capable enough to keep up with a higher-end machine. Another thing I appreciate is that it doesn’t take up a ridiculous amount of counter space while still feeling sturdy and well built. The one downside for me is that the stock fork doesn’t work with my Normcore dosing cup, which was kind of annoying. I’ll probably end up buying an aftermarket fork replacement so I can keep the dosing cup hands-free while grinding. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to know if you already use certain espresso accessories. Overall though, I’ve been really happy with the appearance and how it works. It feels like one of those upgrades that actually improved my daily coffee routine instead of just looking cool on the counter. B09HB8P99M US

Coffee tastes so much better. The grind is consistent, and takes perhaps five minutes of cranking for each load. Baratza Encore ESP Pro Coffee Grinder ZCG595BLK, Black 1 Did not work for espresso Bud*** Made well, although the plastic sides of the case was a letdown. The real issue was that I could not dial in my espresso. The espresso poured through the portafilter and.no adjustments worked. I gave up when a finer setting of 3 went through the machine faster than a setting of 6. Most people seemed to be reporting settings that worked at around 40. I spent too much time dialing in to no avail. I wasn't about to call Baratza and get shims. A new product should work out of the box. We have had the Encore for years and love it. After all, consistent and quality coffee grind is one of the few factors in making café-quality espresso. After doing a lot of research, I chose this coffee grinder. I am very impressed with the grinder quality; however, buyer beware there is a significant learning curve. It took a few days to dial this in, as the instructions were less than helpful. De’Longhi Dedica Espresso Machine with Manual Milk Frother, 15-Bar Pump & Adjustable Tray - Home Barista Coffee Maker for Esp 5 Great beginner machine Kevin & C*** I know that I could spend more money and get more features and perfection quality espresso, but for the price, this machine does a great job. It’s easy to use and remarkably small and space saving. The espresso is good and the milk frothing produces nice texture. It heats up quickly (under a minute) and cleans quickly as well. Makes a nice cappuccino in the morning and since it is simple I find myself using it every day. There are a few recommendations/extras I recommend. The plastic tamper it comes with is not good. Thankfully, a cheap tamper can be had for a low price. It doesn’t come with a milk jug used for frothing. Another cheap item. While it works well with pre ground coffee, the quality of fresh ground coffee is very noticeable. An espresso grinder is a more expressive upgrade, but something you can grow into as you go. The item comes with a pressurized basket, which is great for someone new to espresso. Pressurized baskets are forgiving on grind size, but if you want to play around and improve, invest in a good grinder and an unpressurized basket. This isn’t a necessity for most, but is something I’ve noticed a difference with. My biggest complaint with the basket is the size. It’s hard to get 12 grams of coffee into the basket, but if you choose to upgrade, you can dose more coffee and improve the final product. Lastly, some reviews complain about the frothing. I’m actually impressed as it produces steam quickly and powerfully. The milk texture is good, more the cappuccino style rather than a latte. If you like flat whites, you might not be happy with the steam wand, but it works well for me. Very fluffy milk foam is my preference and the Dedica does a great job with this. B07CV1JTMN US

Coffee Machine Cleaning Brush, Dusting Espresso Grinder Brush Accessories for Bean Grain Coffee Tool Barista Home Kitchen 5 Great brush! Nolan G*** I've been using this to brush off my hand burr grinder and my electric burr grinder. It works great for both as the long bristles can get into deep spots. Very helpful! B0BNGK7NGW US
Capresso Infinity Plus Solid Steel Conical Burr Large Elegant Grinder with Gear Reduction Motor, Safety Lock System and Removable Upper Conical Burr (Shiny White) 4 Nice Little Grinder, NOT for Espresso Fizzy*** This cute little compact grinder does a good job for my French Press. The coarse grinds are consistent with no noticeable 'fines'. With these cheaper conical grinders, you will need to clean out the grinds from the burrs after each use, but luckily this grinder is easy to clean. It also helps to blow on the burrs, even if you get grinds in your face, lol. Look elsewhere if you want to grind fine enough for Espresso. You will need to spend over $200 for a decent Espresso grinder or just buy your espresso coffee pre-ground. B0C1NHY65L US
