The first year of use it worked beautifully and then one day...I walked out of the kitchen, and heard the sound of boiling water splashing on my counter! At first I thought it was something I had done wrong, but it wasn't, it was an electrical override of sorts. I actually took the temperature one time...I had set the temperature at 205 degrees and when I heard it boiling I used my meat thermometer and it measured 214 degrees. Tonight it boiled dry twice and it was set at 180 degrees. The challenge is that it doesn't happen consistently. It is safest to unplug it in between uses. G*** I bought this kettle a little over a year ago (November 2022). About 6 months into using it, I started noticing that the base would become moist. Fast forward to last month when I realized that the kettle is no longer holding water. Luckily I use it close to the sink, so have not had a flood, but the base of the kettle corroded and although it's not possible to see the size of the hole, it drains out most of the pot overnight. It does still boil the water, just very small amounts of it. I reached out for tech support, but am ONE month out of the warranty period. OXO Brew Gooseneck Electric Kettle – Hot Water Kettle, Pour Over Coffee & Tea Kettle, Adjustable ... 1 Worked Great for 13 Months and then Quit Working - and I was Careful! R*** I could tell that this kettle had the potential for crapping out because the dial was below where the water was. That meant, if OXO didn't have good enough gaskets around the dial, water could leak in to the electronics and damage the circuits. And with a kettle, you're dealing with water, so eventually things get wet. Nevertheless, I was very, very careful, keeping the base of the kettle dry at all times, cleaning up the tiniest drop. Once, water clearly got inside, and the display went nuts. I literally put the base in a bag of rice. DON'T DO THAT!!! It did work, but took me a few days to shake all the rice out of the interior nooks and crannies! Anyhoo, the kettle worked for another 6 months no problem, and then more water seemed to get in around the control knob. Again, this should be part of the design. But ever since then, I've only been able to get the kettle to work twice. Once was after unplugging and replugging it 7 or 8 times and pressing the control button who-knows-how-many-times. I originally paid around $80 for the kettle. Now it's more. I bought OXO because I don't need anything super fancy, just something functional, I liked their design, and I've always had great success with OXO. CLEARLY they cut corners on the quality. I'm a long-time kettle user. I know a good kettle when I use one. I've never had a kettle for so short a period of time. What a waste of money. There's an auto shut-off as expected, as well as an LED ring that illuminates the water. The Build feels premium. The lid is lifted by pressing a button, which clicks nicely. The on/off switch has a solid click to it as well. The only real issue I had with it is that I would have rather had the beak to be made of glass as well, instead of plastic.
