His latest book is no different. I enjoy cooking, but found myself at a loss when I'd follow recipes to the letter and they still wouldn't turn out as expected. Now, I don't worry about pesky things like measuring cups or the 13 ingredients. I get to rediscover why certain foods taste well together and how simply those methods can be used for other meals. These fundamental guidelines make potentially complex meals, simple. It helps that his writing is so conversational, at least to me. I could see how some could be turned off by such a direct and conversational style, but I appreciate it as it has sort of a "I've been there man, don't sweat it" vibe. They are identified on their containers as certain amounts total. Then they say if you are making a small amount to use like 1/4 of the sand and 1/4 of the adhesive. Who has the right measuring tools to measure both a liquid and a solid for ounces or worse yet metric amounts? So I had to estimate the amount of each. The same issue presented itself when adding the water. This measuring mess could be easily be addressed by changing instructions to say to use a certain number of cups or half cups or tablespoons etc. Or they could provide measuring cups. Or more economically they could just add measuring marks on the side of the containers. (A nice check from the manufacturers would be nice for solving that issue LOL X10) Once mixed, it was easy enough to apply. I put this in my deck over a week ago but have not really stepped on it or rinsed it off so I am not sure if it is durable. The color does not match my deck which I expected but even though the Amazon listing said it was available in numerous colors, I could not find a way to order in a different color. The measurement markings don't scrub off, and they are fairly solid in design and construction. The magnetic connectors in the handles make them stack easily and lock together. Cons: The only negative I can think of here would be a lack of any sort of internal line marking where the measurement is complete and full, so I am forced to conclude that the actual rim of the measuring cups is the line, and use that. An internal marking would have been useful for accurate measurements without risk of spilling over. Overall: A good product. Solid and reasonably durable for a product of this type.
