Great Basketball Drills: A Baffled Parent's Guide Paperback – October 24, 2001 4 Packed with many good game-like drills Arthur *** This is the seond book by Jim Garland that I have read. He includes drills in his books that are game-like and keep players moving. Also the drills are not to difficult to organize. My favorite section was the drills on screening. I thought the drills in this section were more game-like and didn't involve standing in line. i do think this book is best suited for coaches of elementary aged teams. A vast majority of the drills are more suited to that age group. 0071459235 US
The Baffled Parent's Guide to Coaching Girls' Basketball 4 Very Instructive Manual for Beginners Anw*** Well-written book for first time coaches. Organized into chapters that correspond to each part of coaching girls basketball, including practice drills and organization, game prep, offensive and defensive. It's really geared towards intermediate girls play, so that was extremely helpful to me. I coach 5/6th graders. The "Ask The Coach" part was also a nice touch - made it a more interactive read. 025208912X US
Sol Butler: An Olympian's Odyssey through Jim Crow America (Sport and Society) 5 Greatness beyond Jim Crow limits Frank *** Author and history professor Brian Hallstoos was inspired to research Butler after attending a guest lecture on Paul Robeson at his college. This led him to focus on another Black Olympian who had graduated from the same institution where he taught. Hallstoos’s work reflects thorough research and careful scholarship, presented in an engaging and accessible style. Butler’s father had been enslaved but escaped to fight in the Union Army; his mother was born free. Their son, Sol, grew up in Kansas and Oklahoma, where he proved to be a natural athlete. He might be compared to Jim Thorpe, the greatest all-around athlete of his era. At his college, now University of Dubuque, Butler starred in football, basketball, and track, routinely setting records. His primary focus became track and field—sprints, the broad jump, shot put, and discus. In track, he achieved international success, winning an Olympic medal in the 1920s in Belgium. In Butler’s youth, his parents struggled to find schools that would accept their Black children. Even in college, he was forced to sit out early football games when opposing teams refused to compete against a team with a Black player. After graduation, he played professional football, including in the fledgling NFL, though the sport was not yet organized enough to offer a stable career. Perhaps most remarkable was Butler’s character. Despite the barriers of his era, he maintained dignity, resilience, and stability throughout his life. This excellent book, from a respected publisher, offers a Black person whose achievements deserve far wider recognition. 0306816121 US

Don't Put Me In, Coach: My Incredible NCAA Journey from the End of the Bench to the End of the Bench 4 Great book for OSU basketball fans, and fans in general Adam *** Mark Titus's career at Ohio State was somewhat incredible, considering his star-power in the city of Columbus when compared to his on-the-court playing time. But what Mark was lacking in statistics at OSU, he more than made up for in personality, wit, and social media presence. Don't Put Me In Coach is his account of his time playing for the Buckeyes, and is full of great, hilarious stories regarding the roller-coaster ride of a basketball season, as well as the various personalities he encountered (such as Evan "The Villain" Turner). While Titus is not the best writer, the book is a quick, light-hearted read that provides a funny, sometimes insightful view of the behind-the-scenes workings of a major college basketball program. 0547746512 US

Hello Beautiful (Oprah's Book Club): A Novel 2 Really overrated BJ Le*** "Hello Beautiful," was supposed to have a large element of basketball. The author alluded to Magic Johnson playing a senior year at Michigan State, and advised methods of fouling as a way to play defense. Both are flagrantly incorrect. Napolitano mentions David Halberstam's "Breaks of the Game" as fare for the protagonist's feckless husband. An excellent book, but one about or by Senator Bill Bradley would have been a much better choice. This player did not have a plan, which was surprising. You go to Northwestern (a great near Ivy with wonderful professors), you get a degree, and usually that means you are a solid, well-rounded, very competent person. When the son of actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus made the team, Northwestern went to the NCAA tournament. When the character in the book played, the Wildcats were bad, and were disparaging called, "Mild-cats." Also, there was a groundswell movement to change the Northwestern nickname to "Purple Haze." Author Napolitano did not mention that. All families have problems, but did the parents have to be such schmegegges? Also, the poetic sister is said to have become a librarian with an associate's from a community college. It almost always takes a BA, with an MS in library science. The protagonist decides to conceive when her husband has trouble in graduate school. Aren't those bridges crossed by means of contraceptives? I could not root for these people. This book is wistful, puerile crap that desperately needed editing. 069113751X US
Gaming the World: How Sports Are Reshaping Global Politics and Culture 5 "Gaming the World" will strike evenly for sports fans, sports scholars D. Wa*** Sports are the object of such a rabid obsession in modern society that intense discussion of them rarely needs exceed wins and losses. Indeed, as Vince Lombardi's favorite saying went: "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Andrei S. Markovits and Lars Rensmann don't reject the wisdom of that famous mission statement in "Gaming the World," but they push the boundaries of sports talk far beyond the information found in a box score. Never before has the world been as globalized as it is now in the 21st Century, and never before have sports like soccer, American football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey been as popular as they are now throughout the West and throughout the world. Markovits and Rensmann examine these conditions through a fusion of ideas about sports and about globalization. They consider, for instance, how forces of globalization were able to turn to soccer from a game played by English schoolboys into a ubiquitous global language, and how "other footballs" like rugby and American football survived, flourished, and carved popularities of their own. Conversely, they examine sports as an agent of globalization and modernization -- how figures like Jackie Robinson were able to help dismantle oppressive forces in society by first deconstructing them on the playing field. Markovits and Rensmann's appraisals, though, remain candidly honest. While the cosmopolitan soccer clubs of Europe have helped ease racial tensions, the authors aren't afraid to face the harsh reality that European soccer remains an occasional bastion of racism and violence. Likewise, they confront the fact that, while women's sports have enjoyed a massive growth in popularity (especially in the U.S.), they still attract a disproportionately small share of our attention. Throughout, the authors convey a deft understanding and respect of the forces driving sports culture, sports industry, and sports fandom. It's also quite clear that they posses a firm comprehension of the work of their contemporaries and predecessors in the academic study of sports. If they are great sports scholars, though, Markovits and Rensmann are also great sports fans, and they communicate their ideas so naturally that sports fans should find the conclusions of "Gaming the World" quite intuitive, as if they knew them all along. For students of sports, "Gamin the World" is an essential component of any collection, and for sports fans it's an eye-opening guide to approaching a familiar interest in an entirely new way. "Gaming the World" is such a compelling exploration of a global phenomenon that even those apathetic toward sports, after reading it, might find themselves tuning into a sporting event (like this summer's ongoing World Cup) just to see what all the fuss is about. 0691154589 US

A Fearless Leader: A Bible Story About Deborah (Called and Courageous Girls) 5 Highly recommended! Sarah D*** I read this book to my 8 year old daughter and her friend when they got wiggly at their siblings’ basketball game. Even though both of them have grown up in church, neither of them were familiar with the story of Deborah. They loved it! They were able to follow the story line of the book easily and asked great questions afterward to learn more. This book isn’t meant to be an exact replica of Scripture, and it adds colorful details without losing the truth of the story in Judges 4-5. The illustrations are imaginative and colorful, the wording flows, and the discussion questions at the end are applicable. I’m so glad that this book is part of the Called and Courageous Girls Series. It’s an important story that often falls through the cracks. Book cover How to Be Better At Basketball in 21 days: The Ultimate Guide to Drastically Improving Your Basketball Shooting, Passing and Dribbling Skills 2 More pamphlet than book Scott *** - Book is very short and light on content. Less than 80 pages long, with lots of blank or mostly empty pages throughout - Poorly edited--there are typos and other mistakes. Feels like something put together by a PE teacher in 1990's. - Several things it asks you to do in the drills are not either explained well or not explained at all (e.g. pendulum dribble) - Promises a 21 day plan, but its a 7 day plan repeated 3 times. And two of the days are rest, and 1 is just a timed mile run. So that leaves 4 days with significant workouts, and those 4 workouts consist of the same 11 drills in the same order, with a different set of a few conditioning exercises at beginning. It is underwhelming and repetitive. Again, seems like the work of an uninspiring PE teacher. - Everything can be done on your own, which is nice. But this also means passing drills are simply throwing the ball against a wall which will not turn you into Nikola Jokic. - Besides being repetitive, workouts are sequenced poorly. One example: Only free throw drill is shooting 25 free throws in a row. Why not break up free throws into sets of five in between other drills, giving you more chance to practice making these shots when tired? Overall, this is not a good book and I don't recommend it. I give it two stars because if you do follow the program in this book, you may well be a better basketball player 21 days later as it will have you doing a lot of dribbling, shooting and running drills for 15 days. But it will be repetitive. And you could probably get a lot more benefit from following a better regime than this one. 153219398X US

We Are the Wildcats 2 Missed opportunity to share a beautiful game. Bill Kup*** The first half of 2020 has been a disaster for field hockey enthusiasts, especially supporters of the USWNT. After a disappointing start with three straight losses in the FIH Pro League, the corona-19 virus forced the cancellation of the series. We do not know at present when and how school and NCAA field hockey will be played this fall. But a small mercy—thus far it has been as great year of reading about our sport. So far I’ve read Fiona Campbell’s No Number Nine, Quan Barry’s We Ride Upon Sticks, and now Siobhan Vivian’s We Are the Wildcats. Comparing these three novels brings out the splendid variousness of the sport. Campbell’s is international hockey, culminating at the Olympic Games. Both Barry and Vivian write about American high-school field hockey. Though their settings are similar, the two books belong to quite different genres. We Ride Upon Sticks is clearly intended for the audience for “literary” fiction, so while most of the characters are teenagers in the 1980s, the setting in Danvers, neighboring Salem, Massachusetts is heavily reliant on the mythology of the Salem witch trials of the 17th century. We Are the Wildcats is a YA featuring a common theme of the genre, the moral superiority of teenagers (especially girls) over corrupt and manipulative (especially male) adults. I had hoped for another story with the intensity of Megan Abbott’s Dare Me, and to some extent Vivian delivered. Both feature a triangle of two high-school BFFs and a demanding coach who wants a state championship and drives the team to their limits to excel. Abbott’s sport was competitive stunt cheerleading, Vivian’s field hockey. Her team is the West Essex Wildcats, and as with Abbott’s Sutton Grove Eagles, we never learn their precise location. The BFFs are Melanie Gingrich and Phoebe Holt, a forward and a midfielder who make a deadly goal scoring combination. Coach is a handsome twenty-something who is supposed to have played on the US men’s national team and imagines himself too good for high-school coaching. Last season the Wildcats were runners up for state championship when Mel failed to score, Phoebe was out with a torn ACL and Kerson, seconded from the JVs to replace her, flopped. (It was a nice touch to witness the Schadenfreude of Kerson’s former JV teammates.) Then Ali the goalkeeper allowed Oak Knolls to score the winning goal. Coach is determined that not happen again. The girls on the team believe his connections are vital to getting scholarships. As in many contemporary novels, much of the narration is conducted by text messaging. As the new season opens, Coach appoints Mel team captain, but she is also Coach’s favorite and throughout the book we share their secret messages. We also discover Coach is developing a new favorite, Luci, who’s just made varsity as a freshman. The Wildcats are commencing their new season with a scrimmage, a “friendly” match against their arch-rivals the Oak Knolls Bulldogs. By tradition the night before the opening game is given over to a “Psych-up” sleepover at the home of the Wildcat captain, who will give the newly chosen varsity team their uniform shirts. But this year Coach doesn’t deliver the shirts, and the girls embark on their own midnight rambling team-building effort, leading to a shocking revelation that Coach has been deceiving and betraying them. Like West Essex, the universities to which the Wildcats aspire are imaginary. Coach is supposed to be an alumnus of Truman University. Its location is undisclosed, but apparently far enough away to require a plane flight for a campus visit (Mel has already been offered a scholarship) and almost but not quite Ivy League: I’d imagine like Duke or Northwestern. “Their field hockey team produced nationally ranked players, many of whom, like Coach, went directly into the Olympic pipeline.” That “like Coach” rang with a large clunk. Although Coach is supposed to have played Division I field hockey in college, there are no American universities with men's intercollegiate field hockey programs; unfortunately it is exclusively a women’s sport. There is a poorly supported professional USMNT; if possible its players train overseas.) As there is very little actual hockey playing in We Are the Wildcats, but I couldn’t help wondering what members of Vivian’s audience would make of Mel and Phoebe’s game strategy. “Okay! So you and I are going to make a run at the Oak Knolls goal with the kind of intensity we’d have if the clock were about to run out and it was our last chance to score. Except we’re going to do it immediately after the face-off.” “Assuming you win the face-off,” Phoebe teases. Mel swats her. “I always win the face-off! Anyway. Instead of passing the ball forward, I’m going to hook the ball sideways to you. Then you and I will sprint straight up the field, full throttle, crisscrossing passes as we go. I’m imagining three total, like boom boom boom, with your last one hitting me right at the top of the key. And then I’m going to fire off a shot, as hard as I can, with everything I’ve got.” Seeing “face-off” and “key,” a YA field hockey player might wonder if Mel and Phoebe think they’re playing ice hockey, men’s lacrosse, or basketball. Since the 1980s, face-offs, or bullies as they’re termed in field hockey, are rare, mostly replaced by a push-back for starting or restarting games. And the goal-scoring zone is a 15 yard semi-circle in front of the goal cage called the “scoring circle” or “the D” and not the “key.” One also wonders what the Oak Knolls defenders and goalkeeper would be doing while Mel and Phoebe were passing the ball back and forth, boom boom boom. Siobhan Vivian missed an opportunity to accomplish for field hockey what Megan Abbott did for cheer. Readers could have come away aware of the beauty and intricacies of the game. If Coach had been a woman, like Coach French in Dare Me, her backstory as a Truman University alumna who went on the play for the USWNT would have been entirely plausible. She could actually have played division I field hockey at an elite university like Truman is supposed to be. Surely, a woman coach could be equally prone to favouritism, self-centeredness, and manipulative behavior as any male. And from an artistic POV would be more plausible, realistic, and accurate with respect to American school sport. The ignorance of the game We Are the Wildcats betrays is especially unhappy because Vivian wastes an opportunity to display for YA readers who do not have the good fortune to play field hockey—either because they live in the wrong states or are wrong sex—what an exciting international sport it is, very demanding physically, fast and constantly moving, and requiring the most selfless teamwork from the whole squad (quite unlike Mel and Phoebe’s game plan in this book). Some games really are morally and spiritually better than others, and I believe field hockey, whether played on the school, university, club or international level, is amongst the very best. 1534853618 US

The Tao of Yao: Insights from Basketball's Brightest Big Man 5 An innovative biography & a read well worth your while Angela*** I'm a big basketball fan and a friend recommended this book to me. I really found it very interesting, informative, and yes, insightful. As opposed to a standard rehashing of a celebrity?s biography, or predictable blow by blow travelogue, this book takes a more dynamic approach to looking at why Yao has become such an international phenomenon. By seamlessly blending current events with basketball history, Chin explains what this athlete symbolizes, how he represents so many diverse fans, and why this all matters in today?s global village. Now I can see how some people might not get the subtler messages - the relevance of the 2,000 year tradition of Chinese philosophy with modern life isn?t headline news in the US. But the author does a worthy job of making these links, and supporting the larger case that Westerners have to be more aware of Eastern perspectives (just as Asia has followed America), since this "alternative" awareness actually can help us lead more well-rounded lives. And in our crazy world, I think that is a lesson well worth reading. 1618931342 US

The Tao of Chip Kelly: Lessons from America's Most Innovative Coach 5 It's great book for me and what I have been doing ... Matt *** It's a great book for me and what I have been doing with regard to coaching basketball. The book drives home a lot of points about being innovative and the effective use of talent. Some would say that it takes courage to be a risk taker...or innovator. In Coach Kelly's case, it seems to me that his courage is a state of mind because he is coaching according to his personality. How well a coach articulates the program strategy goes a long a long way toward the level of success of that program. Not a lengthy book, but a lot a good stuff in the book to internalize. I've read it twice and will go through it again. 163727517X US

BASSketball Lessons: 22 Winning Principles For Youth Who Play Sports (BASSketball Lessons Series) 5 Practical and honest advice from the heart for kids, athletes, coaches and parents K*** The words of wisdom in this book will resonate in all areas of life and for everyone, athletic or not. Mr. Bass has walked the walk and can talk the talk in an honest and open way. Through excellent impactful life stories and anecdotes, he helps the readers see and understand they are not alone as they quest for excellence in sports, school or life. With key quotes setting the stage for each chapter he shows how he faced adversity and sometimes succeeded and other times failed. And failing is ok - if you only do the easy things, you will rarely truly succeed. Failure is hard on kids and adults and so is the grind to be successful. Pressures or winning and extra practice and not being a kid can stress the body and the mind. The book shows that is ok to ask for help when you appear to be at the top of your game but in fact are afraid, stressed or depressed Playing basketball or any sport at the Div 1 level is a dream for many and very few of those dreamers ever make it there. Fewer make it to the pros. Mr. Bass made it to Div 1 and did not make it to the pros. But through this book he helps kids and adults recognize that sometimes making it to the pros is not in the cards, despite all of your hard work, but trying to live your life to the fullest and enjoying the journey always is, and that is 100 percent up to you. As a parent and coach the lessons in this book helped me and will help anyone fortunate enough to understand and apply Bassketball lessons to their life. 1798494892 US

Connection Culture, 2nd Edition: The Competitive Advantage of Shared Identity, Empathy, and Understanding at Work 5 MUST read for leaders looking to foster a culture of connectedness in their organization Paul L. *** Other reviewers have noted the many strengths of this book, including that it’s an enjoyable and inspiring read; it presents a simple, memorable and actionable model to improve work cultures that is supported by empirical research; it brings the model to life through a wide range of profiles of leaders and organizations that is an interesting mix of familiar names and others who will likely be new to you; and it equips you with practical actions to implement. The 2nd edition broadens the diversity of people spotlighted for how they foster and strengthen connection in their particular setting, making the book more representative of today’s world so that it resonates with all. Michael shares insights you may not know about some well-known leaders and organizations. When you read the profiles of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Costco, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Bono (of the rock band U2), Oprah Winfrey, Coach K (of Duke University’s men’s basketball program), Mayo Clinic and Steph Curry (of the Golden State Warriors), you will see each in a new light, including a little-known key to their success (i.e., how they tapped into the power of human connection and cultivated connection cultures). Finally, I appreciated the author’s openness to share from his personal life too, particularly of his wife surviving three different types of cancer over a span of 10+ years and what he discovered about connection in the midst of those challenges. 195485496X US
Finding My Way: A Memoir of Family, Identity, and Political Ambition 5 An Intriguing memoir for the era of me-too Li*** While Robin Schepper's story of making it despite repeated challenges is compelling on its own merits, it was particularly striking to me as a marker in the era of me-too. Robin repeatedly tells of advances and - let's be honest here - sexual harassment and worse - from men in just trying to make her way in her academic and career aspirations. It started so early - with her basketball court - and seems to follow her until she meets and marries her husband Eric. It makes the reader seethe on her behalf, given other challenges she faced - money issues, having to be the parent to her mother, a grandmother with an unconventional line of business....for how much longer will women have to battle through men making sex a precondition to advancement? Robin not only prevails, she soars, ultimately creating an enviable career and a thriving family life. What makes the book so readable are the ins-and-outs she takes the reader on, her honest reflection about decisions that she made (good and bad), and a retelling of campaigns and events that are familiar to a reader about Robin's age. The great reveal at the end about her biological dad is heartbreaking - what would life have been like for her with his support? But then we wouldn't have this story and possibly the strong and resilient author herself. I highly recommend this book. 1982160594 US

1-Minute Sports Devotions For Young Christian Basketball Players: Build Unshakable Faith, Consistent Discipline, And Lasting Confidence On And Off The ... For Boys And Christian Gifts For Teen Boys. 5 Perfect for Young Players Building Discipline and Faith Tamer*** I picked this up to see what it was about, and it’s actually a really solid devotional for young basketball players. Each section is short and easy to read, but still meaningful. It usually starts with a scripture, then a quick lesson that connects it to real basketball situations, and ends with a short prayer, which makes it feel structured but not overwhelming. What stood out to me is how practical it is. It covers things young athletes actually deal with, like missing shots, feeling pressure, or comparing themselves to teammates. One part that stuck with me was the idea that your identity is bigger than your performance, which is something a lot of players struggle with but don’t always hear explained this clearly. I also liked that it focuses a lot on mindset, discipline, and character, not just motivation. It feels like something a young player could actually apply both on and off the court. I think this would be really helpful for teen boys who play basketball and want something quick they can read daily without feeling like it’s a big commitment. Each devotional is short enough to fit into a routine but still gives something to think about. If you are looking for something deep and long, this is not that. But if you want something practical, encouraging, and easy to stick with, this does exactly what it is meant to do. Overall, I would give it 5 stars. Simple, but very intentional and useful for the audience it is written for. 6303152759 US
VHS Tape $14.99 3 One Of The Best Sports Films Of The 90's Sean Pa*** William Friedkin's Blue Chips is an engaging and though compelling look at a dark side of sports these days. I rank this film up there with Hoop Dreams, Without Limits and Rudy as the greatest sports films of the nineties. We can all thank Friedkin for having the sense to put the shot clock at the bottom of the screen during the final scene of the big game instead of having to cut back to it every second. Overall, great basketball action, good direction and a positive message make this a great buy. B00007GD14 US
The September Sessions 5 If you give a shot, you'll love it. Absolu*** Jack Johnson is indeed one of the best new stars in music today. Whether or not he gets the mainstream respect that he deserves doesn't matter to him, because he will not compromise his style for appeal. The September Sessions is a perfect example of this. The September Sessions Soundtrack is not a Jack Johnson record. There's an excellent cover of Buffet's Pirate Looks at 40, and then a different version of F-Stop Blues from Brushfire Fairytales. However, only hardcore Jack J. fans will notice the difference between the original and the one on SS. The fact that Johnson is not all over this album is not something that retracts from the album's score. In fact, the acts that Jack decides to put on here add up to an incredibly cohesive album for just about any mood. Put this on when you're alone and in a bad mood, you'll be able to vibe along with the melodies. Put this on when you're out surfing or playing basketball with your friends, it's perfect music for the atmosphere. Johnson is quickly building an incredible catalogue in all areas. Whether it's with his surfing films, their accompanying soundtracks, Brushfire Fairytales, or the upcoming On and On (which is every bit as good as BF), he is becoming the number one name in jam rock. WILSON NCAA Final Four Basketball 3 Poor Grip quality, Heavy with dead bounce INSPECTOR*** ok ball for a young kid maybe. the panels are glued on and do not have very good grip, the ball feels like a rock compared to a DRV and the bounce is poor, I can already tell this ball won't last in Arizona (glue will likely peel off). Need a higher quality outdoor ball, going for either Forge Pro, or an Evo Replica Game ball. B0009VELDW US
Zi/O Excel Indoor-Outdoor Basketball 5 Great ball for outdoor Amazon C*** Great ball for outdoor, black-top, courts. Initially, it gets slick from the layer of dirt that it picks up from the court. But within a few days wear, it has a great feel. B0009VELG4 US

MacGregor Rubber Soccer Ball 1 1 NOT A SOCCER BALL Annd*** This is NOT a soccer ball. This is a rubber bouncy ball that just looks like a soccer ball. I’m pretty disappointed as I bought these for school prizes. I bought a football and basketball in the same price range, and they were real! This “soccer ball” bounces more than the basketball! I guess my coworker and I both missed the “rubber” word in the description. B000C889FS US

1981 NCAA Championship: Indiana vs. UNC [DVD] 5 College Basketball the way it should be. D. Dar*** This is an awesome dvd for any IU fan or for classic college basketball in general. No shot clock, no three point line and a jump ball means you jump for the ball. Now, that out of the way what can I say but how great a coach Bob Knight is. IU was down by 8 in the first half but wound up leading by 1 point at the end of the first half on a shot by Randy Whitman. IU would never relinquish the lead. They came out in the second half blazing and quickly got out to a 9 point lead which they would more or less hold or add on to for the rest of the game. The video and audio are good except for a shot time from 5:00 to 2:00 in the second half where it is obvious this portion was cobbled from a fan at home who was lucky enough to have a VCR in 1981. You will see a stamp noting WFIE-14 Evansville Indiana and a flash of a commercial that was edited out. At 2:00 it goes back to the original master tape. Obviously NBC had some problems with the master at for this period which is no surprise with NBC if you have ever viewed any of their older sports presentations. They just did not think to make any copies or take care of their tapes. Still it looks much better than the 1975 World Series dvd I have which was also on NBC. This dvd includes the pre-game and post-game shows and a few minutes of the end of the half-time show. A much better presentation than the chopped up 74 minute version of the 1987 dvd which is missing some actual footage of the game as well. It should also be noted that this game took place on March 30, 1981 which is the day President Reagan was shot and almost did not take place. There is a touching ceremeony before the game in which the pastor from UNC leads the teams and the crowd in a prayer. That would never fly these days. Commentators are Dick Enberg, Billy Packer (who didn't have any hair even way back then) and the classic Al McGuire. They do very nice job throughout the game although for the first minute or so there is no audio from their booth as there was apparently a technical glitch. It is kind of sad to hear them mention that Landon Turner will be back next year for his senior season at IU when as most fans know he was paralyzed in a horrible car crash about 4 months after this game and would never play again.
