The black ink is not quite a true black, but more of a very dark grey. It's been fine for printing basic documents, forms, etc., with consistent quality results on all my print jobs (sharp lines, no fading, no skipping, no smudging). Getting a 2-pack at this price saves a lot compared to OEM cartridges, especially if you print with black frequently like I do. When you put in an HP brand cartridge, the printer tells you it's a certified HP cartridge. It did not do that when I installed these cartridges but they worked just fine. I can't say for sure exactly how many pages they've printed. I'm in school working on my master's degree and I have to print A LOT of things for my practicum portion of the program. I'm going through something like 60 pages a day at the site and I'm there 2.5-3 days a week. Just like the brand name cartridges, when I installed it, an alignment page printed and it printed exactly like the HP ones. Worked fine when I scanned it. The ink doesn't smudge or smear and it prints cleanly. They're definitely worth the money. Honestly. I'm glad I tried them. I've always been very apprehensive about trying off brand ink cartridges and this has been a great experience and has saved me a lot of money already. 504 Ink Refill Bottles Replacement for Eps 504 T504 Ink High-Yield 4-Pack 4 Good Value and Clearly Labeled, but Two of the Caps Were Extremely Difficult to Remove Dacembe*** These are third-party 504 replacement ink bottles, and my first impression was that the set is straightforward and easy to identify. Each bottle is individually labeled with both the ink number and color, and the large color-coded sections on the labels make it easy to tell black, cyan, magenta, and yellow apart at a glance. The bottles are also translucent enough that you can see approximately how much ink is inside, which is useful for keeping track of what you have left. The bottle design itself is simple and similar to the style used for refillable-tank printers. I was able to position the magenta bottle directly onto the corresponding tank opening without having to pour the ink manually, which is much cleaner than using a regular open bottle or funnel. The narrow dispensing end also helps keep the ink contained rather than having a completely open mouth that could easily spill. My biggest complaint is the caps. The magenta and yellow bottles opened normally, but the caps on both the black and cyan bottles were unbelievably tight. I tried repeatedly to remove them by hand and could not get either one open. They were tight enough that trying actually hurt my hand, and I am going to need to use some sort of gripping tool to loosen them. That’s more than a minor inconvenience with printer ink because you really don’t want to be wrestling with a bottle full of ink and risk suddenly spilling it when the cap finally releases. The cap tension also wasn’t consistent from bottle to bottle, since two opened without an issue and two did not. The bottles arrived with a good amount of ink in them, the labeling is clear, and I didn’t notice ink leaking around the bottles or caps. I also appreciate that the individual colors are packaged separately rather than requiring replacement of an entire cartridge when only one color is needed. One important thing with third-party printer ink is to double-check the exact ink number and printer compatibility before ordering. These are labeled as 504, so I would specifically verify that your printer is designed for 504 ink rather than assuming that different Epson EcoTank bottle numbers are interchangeable. Overall, the actual bottle and dispensing design seems practical, and the set provides all four standard colors in clearly marked bottles. However, the extremely tight black and cyan caps are a legitimate quality-control issue and keep me from rating the set as highly as I otherwise would.
